Oh God yes!

The writers finally grew a pair! That finale almost redeems the rest of the season.

Yeah, I'm with you on that one Ste. Just felt wrong...as I'm sure most incestuous stuff would! (Yes, I know they're not related by blood, but they grew up together).

I think the reason for the "I love Dexter" sub plot wasn't so much to suggest that they would get together at some point, but rather to amplify the way that Deb viewed their relationship, so that it would be easier to accept him when she finds out about his dark passenger.

I too was a little sceptical about that sub-plot, but given the way the season ended I would say it was one of the few pieces of good writing this year, albeit a little sledgehammered in at the end. I reckon they only came to the decision to reveal Dexter to her quite late in the game, and that's why her feelings for him were only discussed in the past few episodes.

I woudn't say it was good writing at all - but was totally the sledgehammer analogy instead.  It was totally put in there solely for the reason you mentioned (easier for her to accept his 'dark side'..) - and adding it, in the end, made the final reveal even more obvious then the other 'twist'. Sad
