which SD card to buy

i have a Lumix G3, only a few weeks. to start using it i put my only Sd card, a 4GB class 4. this has worked fine, but with using video and taking higher quality pictures than i did on my old camera, i have been looking at a bigger card. i didn't even realise there were different classes. i have seen a 16 Gb class 10 for around £10, but then i noticed the same size card but mentioning HD video for a few extra £. not knowing anything about this i was wandering if i need the dearer card or would the other be fine. i will be doing a fair bit of full HD video, or whatever the camera goes up to.

many thanks.

Although you do get variation, the idea of a 'class' is supposed to be a standard.  Class 10 should be more than fine - and the HD note merely a gimmick..

thanks for that. i did think maybe that was the case, but having only had the one SD card before i thought i should ask. i did notice a little problem with some video i took the other week, i thought at first it might be the new camera but reading up on SD cards i suspect the card i have wasn't capturing/reading or whatever the term is, properly.

cheers

can i just ask, i have seen two cards. one is sandisk 16gb class 10 has HD mentioned, the other integral also 16gb class 10 but half the price. i was hoping to get a sandisk but the only, cheapest, 16gb class 10 one is £20. so as long as the HD isn't important i.e. the integral class 10 would be just as good, i will go for that one.

thanks

The HD is definitely not relevant.  When you get to the 'class', as I said, that is supposed to be a standard.  Like most things, people will have their favourites though - so although both should give broadly the same performance, it isn't always the case and transfer speed can and will vary according to filesize etc.  The Sandisk may also come with a better warrantee.  You could argue that a more expensive card with a better make should give a more reliable performance.

thats great, many thanks, i just wanted confirmation if you like. if the price difference was a bit less i would have just gone for the sandisk, but its roughly double so i guess i will have to weigh up what you have said. with it being a better camera, than my last one, that might just warrant spending a bit more on the card, if performance is a little better. i will see.

thanks again

My Memory is a good place to buy a card. They have special offers most days so it may be worth while waiting a few days. I believe 7 day shop is also good. Any other recommended places?
