2 TB internal Hard Drives?

Hello,

Anybody recommend a fast quite 2 TB internal hard drive?

I am planning on ripping my DVDs and Blu-Rays and streaming them to my PlayonHD on highest quality.

Cheers.

The WD Green drives tend to be pretty quiet, but they won't be super fast. But they'd be fine for streaming (average around 70MB/s I think).
The Samsung Spinpoint series are also worth a look.

I think the faster rpm drives (7200) are quite a bit more expensive than the 'green' ones (5200rpm) IIRC.

Thanks for the reply. Happy

Do you think the 5200rpm drives can handle streaming full 1080p with DTS MA without any lag?

Cheers.

What are the bit rates of audio + video?

The BD spec states a maximum combined data transfer rate of 54Mbps, but under current Profiles it's limited to 48Mbps. Obviously you'll need something quicker than wireless g to stream HD in all its glory.

54Mbps is only 6.75MB/s.

So a drive that can transfer at around 70MB/s is going to be more than good enough (assuming the drive controller etc. can handle it, which I think you'll find is not an issue).

I personally avoid Seagate, simply because their support is rubbish. Had a bad drive, sent it back, it was repaired, and then failed again within weeks. They refused at that point to replace it with a new one, they said it would be repaired again. Meanwhile everytime it dies I lose data!

o/ another anti-Seagate vote.
Also Maxtor in case you didn't know who are also owned by Seagate.

Drive blew my mobo, Craplin denied it so they could get out of the repairs and refund, took me ages to find the fault and it turns out it's a dodgy power supply connector.

When it hits the limit of it's guarantee it's going back, getting replaced and then getting sold for a new drive.

My samsung and western digital drives have been superb so far though Happy
(both 1tb)

I like WD and Samsung as well, and don't like Maxtor or IBM
