Laptop touchpad

I have an HP Compaq NC6000. When browsing and with different tabs open sometimes the tap function on the touchpad works, sometimes I have to use the L click button. It seems to switch from tab to tab and is a bit annoying. Has anyone an idea as to what may be causing it? I don't think it's a mechanical problem because in this window the tap function works fine but in another tab where I am browsing ebay I have to L click.

Is this just during use on your "account", do other members of the family experience the same issues when they use it on theirs?

Try using a Live linux distro & see if the fault manifests itself there, if not then it's looking like software issues

Elsewise then it may be electro\mechanical & you are probably looking at a upper facia\keyboard panel from e-bay & swap out, its not a big job having swapped out mine a few months back due to excessive wear on the left hand click button, the replacement rapidly went the same way (its my fault I stopped using a mouse & allowed fingernails to grow couldn't find the nail scissors after the move into the new house) which were digging away on the rubber).

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
