Ultra cooling solutions

Looking for options for the subject title.
Yup, it's for the 40 Gig PS3 I'm experimenting with.

I've still got the copper block to make some form of water cooler but I'm not convinced this will work or is the problem.
It seems the two big processing chips themselves aren't transferring the heat into the area the PS3 cools with the fan, hence it's shutting down with a too hot message.
Used multiple types of thermal paste including Artic Silver and none have worked (or so it seems) so any other ideas or options will be gratefully received.

Hopefully the copperblock will be cut to shape next week and I can try something with that but think that's gonna be a long process.

I think your theory that the heat isnt transferring really isnt physically possible considering the way it is all fitted together. I would think it is more likely that there is a faulty temp sensor that thinks the system is overheating when it isnt and that is shutting the system down.

That's not just a theory.
I have had the system lying open and had my hand on components literally after it shuts off and the main chips are relatively cool to touch, as is the area below the fan.
The area between both chips is a bit warm (and could possibly be where the fan temp sensor or system temp sensor is)

I regreased again today and it's thermal transfer is better but still only a minute or so, the fan area does feel warm to touch now but the fan isn't going into overdrive mode so everything to me is pointing to a faulty fan speed sensor but just can't find where it is or how to replace it Sad so for now I think water cooling is going to be my best avenue.
