With regards to the contacts etc transferring from Iphone to Desire I'm assuming you've had to do this back and forth yourself.
I've set my googlemail up last month to sync the Iphone to that, but never did it as I was ill at the time and the sync seemed to imply it was going to do it the wrong way around (ie empty google to my iphone) and then just forgot all about it.
I'm assuming I should be able to sync Iphone to that and then sync google to the Desire? Is that the best option, I'm assuming it will be.

For your contacts, use sync in a blink from the app store, it's 59p iirc, & it'll sync all your google contacts back & forth between the iPhone & google, then they will appear on the desire next time you sign into google via the phone
