Cleaned my iPod, then trying to cram all my fav albums on it, and then a whole load of stuff that I'd probably actually give a go if I had it on there (since I use it in the car). Anyway, usual problem, 70gb into 30gb doesn't go, especially when I already have a few audio books on there already.
So after much constant culling, I'm cutting down on the Prince albums, which made me wonder when he actually stopped making good albums.
For me The Gold Experience was his last great album, with Emancipation being the last one I actually ever listen to. But am I being too harsh? I have various onces since then, such as Musicology, Planet Earth (free at the concert) and 20Ten (free in the Mirror), with a few inbetween like The Rainbow Children. None of which I think I've listened to more than once.
Are any of them worth a few more airings, or should I really just stick with Emancipation as being the last that gets a play (and even then rarely)?
It's okay, we can safely talk about when he went rubbish (live performances aside, he still rocks live) since he doesn't read "the internet" anymore as its over.

My love affair with Prince begins and ends essentially with Purple Rain. Love the film and the album, just not a great fan of the title track. Like some of the odd singles like 1999, Kiss and Cream but that's it really.
Got the two freebies and quite liked them but then haven't listened to them since...

I actually don't know much Prince have got the greatest hits recently as know a few people who like him, plus from information available would say he's pretty likely to be headlining Sunday of Glastonbury of next year.
In a steal of your thread asking for recommendations of the best new stuff to listen to, what is the best old stuff to listen to. Have about 7 songs off the Rolling Stone Top songs ever that I *ahem* acquired a while back.

He is??? ![]()
Wonder if he'll do any other festivals, seems these days the biggest acts always do at least 2.

He's by no means guaranteed, but Michael Eavis has confirmed that the Sunday headliner is a US act that he's been trying to get for years. Prince did Rokslide festival this year aswell.
It's pure speculation at the moment and won't know for a long while yet (tickets will already be sold out by the time it's announced). For an artist like that who's not touring the festivals they usually play Hard Rock Calling, as it's the same weekend as Glastonbury, so if he were to play and play another festival I'd say that it would be that.

Just to clarify as got brought up by "Rolling Stones" thread.
I meant the Rolling Stone magazine top 500 songs ever has about 7 Prince songs, so those are the only ones I have to listen to.
Wanted recommendations for Prince's best songs and albums (as an aside to RJS wanting to know if any of the newer stuff is any good).

Heh my bad, I misread that (obv). There are loads of great Prince albums, he is an aquired taste tho, I wouldn't mark him down as easy listening, so these might be best tried on a one at a time basis,
Anyway...
Sign of the Times
Lovesexy
The Black Album
Parade
Purple Rain
The Gold Experience
Batman
Dirty Mind
Prince
Those are all albums I can listen to over and over again, from beginning to end. Sign of the Times concert film is also an absolute must see, it was what got me into his music at the start (in particular Housequake and Hot Thing).
Tho once you are into him, it's worth getting all his albums up to Emancipation.

I know he's played the Montreux jazz festival a few times, but if you have ever been to a gig there.. think school hall.. The venue is way to small.. and the ticket prices way to high ![]()

Thought I'd responded to this but obviously not, I've got this downloaded or at least downloading at the moment. Couldn't find it on Lovefilm.
Although intriguingly, I just searched for it on Play.com and under Blu Ray, The Prince of Persia came up
Just been listening to the best of still recently, but getting a lot more into it, so will slowly work my way through the albums. Hopefully he will be headlining Glastonbury ![]()

Prince at Glastonbury. Not sure how I roll with that. I like some of his stuff but am not what you could call a fan. But then I would say the same about Springsteen. And he was ace. Would like to see him if he did the hits and did not go all spazzed out weird.
Would also depend who else was on.
