> Hello, as manager of G2 I regularly receive requests from fans asking for the band to play more in the north. Now north, to the band is north of Watford, since they all live in, or south of London! I live in the Midlands, so for me the north is north of Manchester. I promise you we are making more effort in 2010 to play shows in the north and elsewhere and in January we are playing the following...
>
> Fri 15th Jan - The Grand, Clitheroe - see: http://www.thegrandvenue.co.uk
> Sat 16th Jan - Pacific Road Arts Centre, Birkenhead - see: http://www.ultimatesetlistlive.co.uk
> Sat 23rd Jan - The Robin 2, Bilston, West Midlands - see: http://www.therobin.co.uk
>
> If you will allow me to beg for a second, please, please make the effort to travel to these shows. I get requests from many parts of the north - Scotland, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and many more, but despite our continued efforts it is not always possible for us to perform everywhere. I am currently talking to the following venues...
>
> The Boardwalk, Sheffield
> Customs House, South Shields
> The Picturedrome, Holmfirth
>
> We also have confirmed northern shows next June, on the 25th at The Limelight in Crewe and another venue TBC in the northwest on the 26th.
>
> The simple reality is that venues in the north with little, or no awareness of G2, (or other bands) are reluctant to book when they are unsure how many people will attend. Although we remain committed in reaching out to all areas we nearly always lose money on trips beyond the Midlands and the journeys that the guys are committing to take them away from their families for whole weekends at a time.
>
> This band has never been about making money and we are extremely grateful to all of you who come to the shows. I know many of you travel many miles to see G2 perform live, which is very warming, but I have to get more people to these events to cover the costs, otherwise the trips we really love to make to the north and further-a-field will just not be sustainable. The three shows in January are just after Christmas when people have little money to spare, so please buy your tickets now and treat yourself to something wonderful in the New Year!
>
> People love this music and they love the way G2 recreate it. There are many people out there who have never seen the band and wouldn't dream of seeing a tribute band and yet you and I know, if they love Genesis and saw G2 they would be blown away. So please, make the effort to come to these January shows and pass details of the shows onto anyone you know who may be interested in this period of Genesis music.
>
> Thanks for listening and thanks for your continued support. If you're attending a show come and say hello, I'll be the idiot trying to flog you a G2 T-Shirt, CD, or DVD!
>
> Have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy and healthy new year.
>
> Best wishes, Colin Davies - G2 Manager.

Saw Colin a few months back when they played Pacific Road - stunning show where they played Trick of the Tail andWind and Wuthering in their entirety. It is true they all have 'proper' jobs so it really is a labour of love and if people could make just a bit of effort they would all appreciate it and carry on doing it.
Already knew about the January gig from here - and went to see Steve Hackett a couple of weeks ago (shook hand and signed new CD Grinning ) and they were promoting the show there too.

Give it a go those who've never seen them - you won't be disappointed!!

Hi Steve, thanks for this: the dedication of the UK tribute bands to their art and act is amazing. Glad you enjoyed the G2 'Trick & Wind' - its just a pity we didn't get around to recording a DVD of the show (...too many nerves and uncertainties etc.), in fact its amazing how often the video recording of an important rock event fails to actually happen eg Floyd in the seventies, Genesis Lamb Lies Down, Yes Topographic etc.

At UltimateSetlist live we seek to recreate the actual gig to catch up on what we missed first time around. See you at Pacific Road - it will be another great night I'm certain.

No problem Neil - at least people here know I'm not a plant just to promote the gig.. Happy
Here's what I said about the G2 gig before it at Pacific Road. Although after speaking to Colin briefly at the last Trick and Wind gig it seems they shouldn't have played so many and got a bit carried away - which was fine by all of us.. Grinning

Absolutely awesome!!
A setlist you can only dream of really. Happy
For those who are bothered... Winking .......
Watcher of the Skies
Dancing With the Moonlit Knight
Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Broadway Melody of 74
Hairless Heart
Carpet Crawlers
One For the Vine
Entangled
Inside and Out
Musical Box
Firth of Fifth
Supper's Ready
In the Cage
Cinema Show
Ripples
Blood On the Rooftops
Unquiet Slumbers For the Sleepers
In That Quiet Earth
Afterglow
Dance On a Volcano
Los Endos.

Almost 3 hours long for £12. An absolute steal. The guy can really hit the notes, they can all play and wow did the full piano intro to Firth of Fifth sound good.... Grinning

Assuming it will be a similar show? Did you find this thread just through google?

Hi Ste

Thanks for posting back and especially for digging up that setlist for the first G2 gig at Pacific Road. Funnily enough the purpose of UltimateSetlistLive is to make sure the set of the gig we promote is pretty much to our tastes and 'on-theme' (hence 'Trick & Wind' show...just the first in a series of special Genesis shows) however for this show we just let them get onto it (I like all Genesis material pre-Duke). And G2 delivered that stunning set that you've listed - I reckon its the best set of Genesis material I've ever seen - some of my favourite songs played. (And they told us too afterwards that they'd played way more than they should - good reaction from the audience always helps and Pacific Road audiences are usually well up for it.)

I hope its okay if we put your comments on our website because I never did get around to writing any kind of review of that show...so that would be really handy for us . Incidentally there is a detailed review of the 'Trick & Wind' show on our website too.

BTW I googled into this site just checking weblinks (..as I write the G2 link on the Pacific Road website is down the show is not currently listed...and that is NOT GOOD!). Anyway its amazing where you can end up googling about so I think I ought to get a G2 DVD issued now that I've found this site!

Cheers

Definitely.
Yeah, of course it's fine to post my comments - I've always meant to do it myself on the official site too... Sad
I did buy the G2 DVD at the gig from above - but it is a bit old now - could do with a new one..... widescreen and 5.1 Winking Happy
(Pacific Road site seems to be down)
EDIT: site up now but show not listed... Nothing untoward I hope? Sad

Saw G2 again last night at Pacific Road...
Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering - and a few others...
Oh, and Steve Hackett was also there watching them..
I'd convinced myself that he'd join them on stage for Firth of Fifth but sadly he didn't. Sad

Seems the venue is closing down at the end of March - another nail in the coffin for live music and bands.. SadSadSad

They need to play Holmfirth. Its a brilliant venue. Proper old concert hall. Would love to see this band but i work some nights and all the dates are always down South and i have to prioritise these using up holiday dates.

Bit of a review from the first time they performed the albums here.  Maybe even better this time - the attention to detail is amazing.
This year we got I Know What I Like, Inside and Out and Firth of Fifth for encores.
