Soundbar, will headphone-out socket do the job?

Maybe one for The Doc here.
I'm looking at a cheap Sharp soundbar,[/url] which will do me fine just to improve on the standard TV speakers.
However, my TV only has optical out or headphone out.
No analogue L+R out. Sad
Optical-out soundbars are too expensive, so my only option seems to be to use the headphone-out.
Will this work?
Will it sound crap compared with L+R out?

I'm not even remotely interested in L+R speakers or subwoofers, it's a soundbar or stick with the TV speakers.

I've got a Yamaha YPS sound bar which I want to get rid of. It's stopped working and I'm not sure why (and I don't have the technical know how to repair it). I was going to suggest that I could sell it to you on the cheap, as it has optical out on it, but once you've paid delivery etc. it might not be worth your time, especially if it stops working again!

Thanks for the offer, the Yamaha bars are something I'd like, but can't justify the expense.
No chance I'd be able to fix it, I'm hopeless.
Cheers though. 8)

The silly thing is, it broke by my baby son putting his foot on the remote. Seemed to put the machine in meltdown, and it never switched back on afterwards!

Perhaps I'll stick it on eBay.

That may help with the connectivity issue.

Cheers for that, Rass.
So I could use the 'headphone out' on the TV, to the 'L+R in' on the soundbar.
But, excuse my ignorance, what benefit would that give me over headphone socket on TV to 3.5mm jackplug socket on the soundbar?

None at all, I thought that was the connectivity issue you wanted resolved, 3.5mm stereo jack to RCA connectors.

Either way is good.
