Thomson Sky+ USB help

I was moving the stuff under my TV to put into a new unit, & noticed (for the first time) that there is a USB on the back of my Thomson Sky+ box.
There is another on the front, under a drop down door under the viewing card.
Can the USB be used as extra recording space using an external hard drive?
I don't have a spare drive to try it, but it I could increase the recording time, then I'd buy another external HD.
Anyone know the answer?
Thanks

There are places will fit a 1TB HDD for you, along with better power supply circuits.
Satcure, for example.
I don't need extra recording time, but I fancy the better power suppy circuits.
That allegedly solves a lot of Thomson related problems.
It's something like £32, that's all.
But I need to wait until we're on holiday, we can't live without a box for a few days.

I was working a Thomson a few years back and asked one of the engineers there about the USB port, he confirmed the initial idea was to allow you to plug in MP3 players or memory sticks etc to play your tunes through the TV, this then moved on to external hard drive support to allow you to back up things you have recorded or play back programs downloaded via SkyPlayer on your computer, this could then include DivX playback.

Pretty much they were only limited by the options in the Sky software which could be updated as time went by.

In the end it was never used as Sky couldn't get the required permission from some of the big movie companies as they were worried about piracy etc.

Although the USB port is useful for charging your mobile or ipod etc as the 5v output is usually still active.

All the best

Gerald.

Exceptionally high if you speak to them correctly.
Usually they send out a refurb'd box, as new customers are getting a HD box without HD subscription you should be ok just by saying you won't accept a refurb.

If you haven't been with them long though, that's a different matter.
