Rob Shepherd says...
To be fair, a lot of the coverage of this captain has been one sided.
Yeah, but I think he is on a slippery slope.
Apparently he went close to the shore because he wanted to know what time the football was on, so he needed some sort of a listing.

Anyone watch the documentary tonight on Channel 4 about the Sinking,
The more I watched the angrier I got about the captain deserting his ship and puting the occupants on board in terrible danger.
Anyway irespective of what happens to that swine of a captain (who should be rotting in prison for life), there will have to be a rethink about the davit system, which was discussed in the documetary as being far to old fashioned a system of launching boats, especially when they exceed 20 degree list, they no longer work correctly in lowering.
Oli rig type launch boats should be considered, which strap people in 'rollercoaster' fashion and shoot the lifeboat out on rails.
Also there is now a call for lifeboat drill to be manditory before any liner can depart a dock, so all new passengers are aware what to do.
Another point was the lies coming down from (SOME) crew saying all things were ok, return to your cabins, that was totally criminal.
This inquest will have to 'beef up better safety standards in passenger liners', just as the titanic disaster did a hundred years ago, but needs updating futher.

I don't want to spoil the ending, but you know in Titanic...?

I have recorded it. Is it any good?
I thought the entertainment crew stories quite hilarious considering the circumstances.
Some dived overboard and swam twenty minutes to shore, others climbed as high as they could go, clambering dangerously over sheets of glass to the top of the ship for a helicopeter rescue, others just looked at the moon coming up over the ship as it listed and said 'oh what a lovely moon'
It takes all types !
THe 'Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia' is repeated tonight on Channel 4 at 11-00pm.
