Petition to investigate the MPAA for bribing politicians

Got to love how an industry body which wants copyright infringers to be treated like drug traffickers on the one hand, thinks its okay to bribe politicians with the other.

Then, a few days later when many lawmakers had already dropped their support for the anti-piracy bills, the MPAA’s comments turned even more grim. Talking to Fox News, the MPAA’s boss threatened to stop contributing to politicians who don’t back legislation designed to protect Hollywood.

“Those who count on quote ‘Hollywood’ for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who’s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don’t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don’t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake,” Dodd said.

I for one find the FBI screen replacement of the Megaupload site pretty scary, Filesonic lost their nerve too - they're falling like flies. These are spooky times.

I'd love to know what the difference is between Megaupload's apparent guilt and the victory by YouTube (Google) over Viacom: http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20008636-261.html

If they took down Google, nobody would be able to report it, because they couldn't google to find out the facts of the case.

Have you never seen those FACT trailers at the beginning of DVDs you legitimately paid for?
Oh yes. I suppose if they had their way piracy would be contributing to greenhouse gasses and we would all be dead in 5 years if we didn't stop NOW or suggesting that people who copy whatever steal from old dears... yawn!!

The real reason they were raided? (or maybe just one for the conspiracy theorists)

And the music industry shat themselves!

Let hope someone else takes over the idea!

Things get even more dubious:

Quote:
Federal prosecutors say data from users of Megaupload could be deleted as soon as Thursday.

So if the data gets deleted, how can you prosecute without any evidence?
