There goes another big name!

Many others? If SOPA gets passed, every single filehosting website will be taken down on a whim, and that includes imagehosts

I wouldn't. Corporate America owns the legislature, and the President wouldn't dare cross them. The only thing that might give them pause for thought is if the big players (like the MPAA) finally realise how much ill will they're storing up by pushing things like this. As yet, most Americans would appear blissfully ignorant of what's being done in their name but sooner or later somebody will bite the silent majority in the ass as well and maybe what's worrying the online community might reach the mainstream.
On the other hand, the entertainments industry might use the same tactics the healthcare industry used to convince Joe Sixpack that the healthcare bill was Communism by the backdoor and that filesharing is nothing more than a Commie plot to snatch the bread from the lips of the starving Hollywood glitterati.

Thing is, as always there are two stories here, when you tell the one about how struggling artists are being done out of a decent living wage, everybody feels sympathy. The trouble is they represent such a small percentage of where the money goes, it's the studios and distributors that take the lions share, and try to screw as much money as possible out of the consumer at every turn.

One down, Fileserve, Filesonic, Wupload, Bitshare, Rapidshare, Multiupload, Uploaded.to, Letitbit, Furk, Hotfile, DepositFiles, UploadKing, Oron, Netload and many others still to go...
And that's just the file hosts.
They will never learn. What I don't get is, I'm pretty sure Megaupload actually does do their best to remove infringing content. ![]()

Quote:
U.S. authorities overreacted in shutting down the online file-sharing site Megaupload and seeking criminal charges against its executives, the company's American lawyer said Friday. "We believe that the allegations are without merit and Megaupload is going to vigorously defend against the case," attorney Ira Rothken said.

It's laughable when it's reported that in addition to copyright infringements they also hand a hand in gun running, drug trafficking, prostitution, child slave labour, robbing kids piggy banks etc..etc only really added to bolster a law that was broken who the average joe public couldn't give a shat about...
