And that makes it okay?
I am amazed that more people on here think it's okay to have attitudes like this than people who don't. Being racist is bad apparently but xenophobic toward Germans is fine and anyone who complains is "like a letter to viz". Absolutely amazing attitude and a shining example of humanity. "as long as it's not directed towards me I'm happy to laugh at it"
There is also a problem with everyone being so politically correct even comedians can't make jokes out of anything without people getting all upset.
Now I didn't see the episode in question, but if it was a stand up routine surely most of the population could see this was the case and therefore could understand it was done to get a laugh rather than be serious.
It's like almost any joke you know for example there was an Irishman and Englishmen and a Scotsman etc.
People are so hell bent on what they see as being offensive everything is taken out of context, they fail to understand life does not always have to be serious.

So true "yours disgruntledly Mr Brian Thesnail" 8)
I guess the level of acceptability is often directly linked to how far people would go, not in the sense of language but action.
I don't think anybody really hates the Germans, certainly don't read about gangs of whatnot attacking people just because they are German, at least not in this country anyway. So whilst what is being said is offensive to some, it isn't born out of hatred from what I can tell.
When you compare that, for example, to racism and homophobia where the whole spectrum runs from gentle ribbing all the way through to regularly murdering people because of their colour or sexual preference.
I'd be interest to know how people who find the xenophobia offensive feel about taunts like ginger, fag or ghey/gay? Do you guys enjoy South Park? Is fat bloke off radio 1 who is regularly criticised for using gay as a derogatory term acceptable?
(I appreciate the irony in describing Chris Moyles there as a fat bloke)
