Lets just keep it to the ones people care about..
Best Picture
AVATAR
THE BLIND SIDE
DISTRICT 9
AN EDUCATION
THE HURT LOCKER
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
PRECIOUS
A SERIOUS MAN
UP
UP IN THE AIR
If you're talking about the movie as w hole, not just the visuals and exploding s*** on screen, District 9 does it for me. Avatar was blue candy floss and inglorious was 2 hours of people sitting having tense conversations interspersed with violence. I fell asleep.
BEST ACTOR
Jeff Bridges, CRAZY HEART
George Clooney, UP IN THE AIR
Colin Firth, A SINGLE MAN
Morgan Freeman, INVICTUS
Jeremy Renner, THE HURT LOCKER
No Sharlto Copley? Nice to see Jeff get another nod
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Matt Damon, INVICTUS
Woody Harrelson, THE MESSENGER
Christopher Plummer, THE LAST STATION
Stanley Tucci, THE LOVELY BONES
Christoph Waltz, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
Matt Damon.
BEST ACTRESS
Sandra Bullock, THE BLIND SIDE
Helen Mirren, THE LAST STATION
Carey Mulligan, AN EDUCATION
Gabourey Sidibe, PRECIOUS
Meryl Streep, JULIE & JULIA
Helen or Meryl. Academy faves. Personally I'd like to see Sandra get one, then perhaps she'll stop churning out crap
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Penelope Cruz, NINE
Vera Farmiga, UP IN THE AIR
Maggie Gyllenhaal, CRAZY HEART
Anna Kendrick, UP IN THE AIR
Mo'Nique, PRECIOUS
meh

BEST ART DIRECTION
AVATAR - Art Direction: Rick Carter & Robert Stromberg. Set Decoration: Kim Sinclair

NINE - Art Direction: John Myhre. Set Dir: Gordon Sim
SHERLOCK HOLMES - Art Direction: Sarah Greenwood. Set Dir. Katie Spencer

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
AVATAR, Mauro Fiore
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, Bruno Delbonnel
THE HURT LOCKER, Barry Ackroyd
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, Robert Richardson
THE WHITE RIBBON, Christian Berger
Same
BEST DIRECTOR
AVATAR, James Cameron
THE HURT LOCKER, Kathryn Bigelow
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, Quentin Tarantino
PRECIOUS, Lee Daniels
UP IN THE AIR, Jason Reitman
There's no denying what Cameron has acheived with Avatar, and it'll pave the way fro the next gen of movies, it's just that in 5 years when the CGI has been matched, Avatar will simply be the poor relation
BEST FILM EDITING
AVATAR, Stephen Rivkin, John Refoua & James Cameron
DISTRICT 9, Julian Clarke
THE HURT LOCKER, Bob Murawski & Chris Innis
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, Sally Menke
PRECIOUS, Joe Klotz
D9.
BEST MUSIC (Original Score)
AVATAR, James Horner
FANTASTIC MR FOX, Alexandre Desplat
THE HURT LOCKER, Marco Beltrami & Buck Sanders

While Hanz should get an honourable mention, it'll be Mr Horner with the gong
BEST SOUND EDITING
AVATAR - Christopher Boyes & Gwendolyn Yates Whittle
THE HURT LOCKER - Paul N. J. Ottonsson
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS - Wylie Stateman
STAR TREK - Mark Stoeckinger & Alan Rankin
UP - Michael Silvers & Tom Myers
Again, the cat smurfs will walk
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS
AVATAR, Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham & Andrew R Jones
DISTRICT 9, Dan Kaufman, Peter Muyzers, Robert Habros & Matt Aitken
STAR TREK, Roger Guyett, Russell Earl, Paul Kavanagh & Burt Dalton
I'm actually of the belief that Avatar should come under animated feature (WALL-E had live action elements too), but it'll still rob District 9 of the honours. Not to take anything away from Star Trek. Love that flick, and the fact the CGI was 100% realistic over the semi-naked na'vi will count for naught
BEST WRITING (Adapted Screenplay)
DISTRICT 9, Neill Blomkamp & Terri Tatchell
AN EDUCATION, Nick Hornby
IN THE LOOP, Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci & Tony Roche
PRECIOUS, Geoffrey Fletcher
UP IN THE AIR, Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turne
D9
BEST WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)
THE HURT LOCKER, Mark Boal
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, Quentin Tarantino
THE MESSENGER, Alessandro Camon & Oren Moverman
A SERIOUS MAN, Joel & Ethan Coen
UP, Screenplay by Bob Peterson, Pete Docter. Story by Pete Docter, Bob Peterson, Tom McCarthy
(notice Avatar isn't in this category?). Oh, give it to Quentin. why not?
So, in conclusion, it's all going to be about the pretty jungle filled with the s***ty story that gets the groaning trophy shelf. At least Slumdog had a tale and characters you could relate to

I liked District 9 on DVD, I think it is more true to life, if a mass of aliens did come to Earth, compaired to a Hollywood version.
Who was the main actor (the white south african guy), he started off playing as a very roppy character, but then as the film progressed, was shown up as a very good actor indeed. You felt real empathy for him by the end of the movie.
The aliens themselves were very good CGI and realistic looking, made by Peter Jacksons company (lord of th ringgs director).
Looking forward to the sequel District 10.

Hmmm not sure on Best Film this year, I've yet to see The Blind Side, An Education, Precious, A Serious Man, Up, but out of the ones I have seen I'm not sure which I'd pick.
I liked all the films up (Avatar the least by a bit) but none that I loved.
Inglourious Basterds is the one I want to see again to make up my mind on (it's been sat there on Blu Ray for over a month, but I got so many over Xmas etc haven't got around to it yet).
Of the films I haven't seen it's only Up and A Serious Man (never came to my cinema
)that I really want to see, but have said I will go catch Precious with a friend aswell.

out of the "best films" at the cinema I saw
AVATAR
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
A SERIOUS MAN
UP
and on DVD
DISTRICT 9
wished I had seen that the cinema
on IMDB I gave Inglorious Basterds and Up 10/10 so I would give it to Inglorious Basterds, funny ppl don't like it for reasons that make a "Tarantino movie" i.e. funny interesting dialogue, then some violence, then a bit more nothing happening with some interesting dialogue, before it goes mental ![]()
but then I guess interesting is in the eye of the beholder ![]()
Avatar and Distrcit 9 I gave 9, but if Avater had been 2d, I would have given it 7
A serious Man I gave 8, really enjoyed that, "proper" Coen Bros film whatever that measn ![]()
well she just got the Golden Globe, so it's an easy shout

Snaps
Every Third Car

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary
