Start saving now, this won't be cheap 8)

The Beatles entire original catalogue has been remastered by Apple Corps for release on September 9th. Details are as follows: Stereo CDs: Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album.
Box Sets: On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.
Stereo Box Set:The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and 'Magical Mystery Tour,' which became part of The Beatles' core catalogue when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections 'Past Masters Vol. I and II' are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set. (Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere)
Mono Box Set:
A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. 'The Beatles in Mono' gathers together all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on 'Past Masters'). As an added bonus, the mono "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.

This sounds very good, but, & I'm guessing, they won't contain any alternative mixes. I have loads but would like them as a boxed set. I'm not sure if the Mono LPs with Singing on the Left & music on the Right will be issued in Mono only or as the Singing on the Left & Music on the Right as well. I am also amazed they never tried remixing the original LPs into 'real' Stereo.I have remixed a few so you have the singing in the middle & a track either side giving to all intents & purposes a Stereo mix. I also have hours of Beatle talk between tracks etc, so how much is 'unheard' I don't know? All in all good news.

I was sent an email via Beatles.com and it states that the first four albums are in stereo for the first time ever. I'm guessing that the original mono tracks have been seperated and put back together in proper stereo...not the horrendous 'singing on the left/music on the right' that they brought out years ago. If this is true...and I hope it is...then I'll be a very happy man! I've always wondered if they would ever have the technology to do this as I hate mono. Its a shame because I love The Beatles but don't tend to play their first four albums as much as I'd like due to it simply being in mono. Still , we should feel lucky the others after that are in stereo because if Lennon had his way they would all be in mono as he wasn't a fan of stereo!?!

I'm drooling at the mouth at the prospect of listening to stereo mixes of 'Things we said today' , 'Im a loser' , 'Do you want to know a secret' , 'All my loving' and the rest!! Grinning

I've read that listening to the Beatles in mono is THE way to appreciate their music, as it was the way they intended it to go out. Apparently listening to Sgt Peppers in mono is a completely different experience.

The dynamics of the music will be compressed to make everything seem bigger and bolder.

I learned a while ago that "remastered" is rarely a positive term.

That maybe because the Two versions are different recordings. Although I'm not sure. I doubt if the Mono is a remix of the Stereo, it was probably a diferent session. As I've said before I have many takes of Beatles recordings, some very different to the one's we know.

The article I read said that they would always record and mix in mono first, but they'd never stay for the stereo mix as they were so dead against it. Also, because stereo was so new, people were using it needlessly, meaning that early recordings were a little more gimmicky as a result.

You may be right. Stereo being new, in 1967 is not so true, I have a recording of a 40s band, recorded in the 40s in Stereo. I have records that I bought secondhand that were 50s pressings in Stereo. I belong to the a few of the 50/60 artists clubs & most, especially US acts made Stereo recordings from the late 50s.I'm sure the previous 3 or 4 Beatles recordings were also in Stereo as I bought them at the time. I also (stupidly) swapped my pristine Please Please me, one of the early pressings (mono) for a slightly scratched "Stereo" (left/ right) version in the late 60s. I'm sure I have alternative Sgt Pepper recordings.
