On the topic of ridiculous ideas for settling draws, Venables always insists that the only fair way is for a striker to start with the ball on the half way line one on one with the keeper, but with a defender starting 10yards behind him.

My personal opinion was Liverpool were lucky that Scaloni made such a bad choice. I understand he kicked it out thinking they'd just get possession back for a goal kick, but there was no way Liverpool were going to do that and they did the sly trick of giving posession back by throwing it in with a bit of power and at a bit of a tricky height which makes the clearance really tricky for the defender so they actually end up with possession again deep in the oponents half.

(which is what any team would do in that situation, thought I'd clear that before any scousers start kicking off Shocked )

It is because that's where they were anyway. He was in his half under pressure so took the 'sporting' option of putting it out. Liverpool gave it back and they could have hoofed it then.
