It's the laws regarding news bias I'm interested in, however I'm far less worried about it atm had there not been a coalition and the tories had got in with a majority.
The BBC can survive with a freeze easily I reckon, it does well selling shows and formats abroad, and on DVD/etc.

If they replaced some of the interminable trails with paying adverts I doubt we'd even notice.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

I have no objection to adverts so long as they are between programmes, I might even look at them then.

So you are a GoCompare fan then ![]()
I like the fact the BBC has no adverts, if it was allowed to have any to make up the shortfall (if it has one) then that really would be the end of the license fee since people will just say let it get all its money that way, what are they paying for if they have to watch ads.
I do hate the trails on the end of programmes as well. ![]()

Sorry, as far as I'm concerned the trails are adverts, just for a BBC specific product. No less annoying now they've moved them into the end credits rather in the gap between programmes. It wouldn't be so bad if they were few and far between but when you get those and the inevitable Children in Need and the TV licence ones, you may as well go the whole hog.
Still, I just Sky+ everything so I can ff through all the ads anyway...

It's quite an interesting read, how BBC contributes to the economy, its growth and various offices all helping.

Won't interest those who oppose the licence fee

Won't interest those who oppose the licence feeUnfortunately not, that's the annoying thing about people who blindly oppose things.
It's the same with public services, asking anyone do they want more money spent on public services they usually say yes, ask them if they want to pay more tax, they usually say no.
I bet after the events of this week with Japan's nuclear power stations, a lot of people will say yes to renewable energy like wind power, but no to it in their back yard.
