PS3 controllers... SplitFish & FragNstein...... [MAD]

got a splitfish FragFx V2 for playing FPS games, mainly because i am utterly UTTERLY useless with the standard console type controller on this kind of game, so bad, when i was playing COD4 on the 360, i would rarely get 1 single kill in an entire match, my death to kill ratio was 25-01.... so... i thought i'd post some of my inarticulate ramblings on the controller Happy allready writen quite a bit over on the {former Sad } BFG forums, & now i've had an hour or so's play i wanted to post here Happy

first, here a few video's showing what it's all about...

FragFx V2 (wired) this is what i got..

Frag Pro (newer wireless version)

FragNstein (same kinda thing, also wireless)

OK, so i've used the FragFx V2 for a little while, & the first thing i want to say is that it works very well, i'm gonna slag it of for a couple of things, but i AM glad i baught it,

Pro's =

the nunchucks great, i couldn't find any dicearnable (sp) dead zone at all, unlike the official dual shock 2's, which suffer quite badly with this in the first few mm's of play. it's also comfortable to use. the mouse is a mixed bag, the laser is good, it's smooth even on the highest sensitivity (you can increase/decrease sensitivity with a wheel on the nunchuck, easy to do even on the fly) & all the PsX buttons are easy to acces on the fly, located right where your thumb naturaly rests while in use,

con's =

Hate the wires... & bear in mind, on the pc i use both a wired keyboard & mouse, so i don't normaly get buggy over wired devices, but on the FragFx the wires are very thick, & the wire between the mouse & nunchuck is (imo) to short, i'm allways "aware" of the wires when i'm playing, cos i keep yanking the mouse to one side while using the nunchuck.... this could be just "me" as i do move about a bit lol... but it's annoying just the same..

the mouse feels "cheap" even though it works well for controll, the overall feel of it is a bit flimsy, & i'm not keen on the 2 main mouse buttons, as you need to press them in about 5mm before they activate, to be fair i have got used to it, & it doesn't bother me now, but i still preffere the more instant feel on my PC's mouse.

it also comes with a hard backed mouse mat, which gets slagged of in most of the reviews, but tbh, i liked it, it was smooth, easy to use on your knee (if your not at a desk etc) & it works just fine.

in summery, if you can get a FragFx V2 fairly cheap, ie, £20 - £30, then they're great, but as the fragnstein is about the same price, & is wireless, if paying full price i would definately go for the fragNstein wireless option (havn't said buy the Frag Pro, cos i can't find any for sale in the UK, & there aren't any independant reviews on youtube that i can find. tho, i'm sure it's a great product)

heres a review of the FragFx V2 VS the FragNstein

That Fragnstein looks good...but at £60ish I'm really not convinced.
I mean the PS3 controller is never going to be as accurate as the keyb+mouse combo for FPS, but I don't think it's worth spending that much.

The Splitfish at £20 ish I might consider, but still not 100% convinced.

well, consider fro y perspective Happy i a Hideously bad with a dualshock controller, rarely even getting a kill, so i tend to get fed up pretty quickly, as you can imagine, so this kind of controller is pretty much the only way i can enjoy FPS games on a console, so for me, it's well worth it, but if your decent on the standard controlle, then as you say, it's probably not worth the cost (tho as it's roughly the same price as 1.5 full price games, if you have a lot of FPS games, then it's worth a punt.)

had a good few hours on MW2 over the weekend, & i have to say i'm really impressed with the fragFx, the nunchuck/mouse combo works really well, so i'm gonna get the wireless version as soon as i finish saving up for my ps3 slim Happy honestly, if i where still usng the dualshock i would have given up by now lol Happy

You're getting me tempted to look at these Chris Grinning

Can't look at any gaming related websites from work, but I'm struggling to find where the FragNStein's are for sale. Will have to check when I get home.

Wow I need something like that as rubbish with controller!
Do u just plug it in and use it straight away or do u need to set each game up so that u can use it with it?

i'll be getting a fragnstein soon, so if you wanna try my splitfish as a proof of concept, before commiting to buying one, then i'll be happy to lend you my fragFx, just post it back to me when your done Happy

i'd deffinately go for a wireless one above the wired FragFx v2, but it would give you an idea so you know if you like it or not Happy

f@ck it...just ordered from the same guy as you Ste.

Watched the video of someone using it and figured it looks like PC gaming controls (which I'm pretty used to with the HL2 action)...so I reckon I'll get the hang of it. Winking
