I'm a big fan of the animated TV show "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (for those who don't know, it has nothing to do with James Cameron's movie!), but I can't help thinking a live-action movie version won't capture the true essence of the story.
The struggle of Aang to come to terms with the huge responsibility he's been given and that he's the last one of his 'people' surely won't come out in a movie an hour and a half long (I'm guessing on times here).
So I guess it will just turn into a big fight with lots of special effects with the elements flying around the place, which is quite sad in my opinion.
The fact they've had to remove "Avatar" from the title is a bit crap as well.

Trailers here: trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/thelastairbender/

Anyway, gets released (in 3D, since that's in fashion these days) on July 2nd in the US....not sure when here.

Anybody following the news about this film? It's getting record low reviews in the US and practically everyone hates it. I had no interest in seeing it before, but now I'm kind of intrigued as to how bad it is.

Some people are even saying they would rather see Twilight Eclipse than this film :s

My boys loved the animated series, and have played all the games on Wii, Playstation etc, so they want to see this.

I was hoping to God that M Night Shyamalan could do something half decent with it, but this is worrying.

Given the two director’s recent form, I would go with the bloke who directed Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night as his last two films rather than the bloke who's last two films were The Happening and The Lady in the Water!

I hated New Moon: the Twilight Saga, but the fact that David Slade made Eclipse has me slightly intrigued so I may go and see it.

All the reviews, apart from maybe three or four, are universally scathing. Take a look at the Metacritic site!

I like Roger Ebert's quote: "The Last Airbender is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented."

There are quite a lot saying that this is basically the final nail in the coffin of M. Night Shyamalan's career. I still maintain that The Sixth Sense was a terrific movie (and still is) but he's not really produced anything of note since Unbreakable, a film a lot of people liked, and a lot of people didn't. I didn't care for either that or Signs which makes him, for me anyway, a one trick pony who made two mediocre early films, a great movie in The Sixth Sense and his career nosedived from there.

I didn't think anyone would give him money after The Happening but they obviously did and I bet they're regretting it now.

I clicked the link, and as soon as I saw the line, 'an M Night Shyamalan film' closed the window...

Id rather sit thru a Uwe Boll marathon than give M Night Shamalamadingdong a penny of my hard earned cash or a second of my life
