Most of my mates who love their movies will not even look at an animated movie or subtitled flik, i have never tired of animated movies, i prefer old hand drawn animation like Studio Ghibli films, Disney and Anime.

Hopefully i can get my young nephew to watch Totoro tomorrow when he stays.....i have been wanting to watch that again for a while

I can understand anyone dismissing a movie they know they're not going to like, but just because it's made a certain way??  I adore animated movies, black-and-white movies, silent movies, movies older than my underwear.  If somebody else won't watch something for some stupid reason, that's their loss.  They won't stop me watching it.

Maybe we need to differentiate between cartoons and animated movies.
I absolutely love the earlier Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes but not so much the later ones.
Speilberg proved that you could still make cartoons of the same quality with Animaniacs.

I wouldn't call Pixars movies cartoons but still love them to bits.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

We like animated movies/cartoons. TV cartoons like Simpsons, Southpark, Family Guy, American Dad, and we go to the cinema to see Studio Gibli films, and Pixar films, and happily watch other animated films. We were going to see Hugo, and Arthur Christmas but didn't get round to it Sad

I was introduced Studio Ghibli by a Univeristy lecturer I had, we watched My Neighbour Totoro, loved it, so I bought Princess Mononoko for the missus(then gf) on VHS for her birthday, we've been following them since, and always make the effort to their films at out Picture House when they show them. Last year they did a Ponyo and Spirited Away double bill Happy

My sister in law likes them, and I have a some mates with kids who like Ghibli films, so they've brought their kids up watching them, and they like them as well.

It probably helps that modern Ghibli films have good actors doing the voices, so if it's the dubbed version you can still enjoy it. Film 4 have been showing a few again recently, I think if they show them during the day they showed dubbed versions, late night/early morning subtitled. Unless it subtitles ones late night 'cos they're the old ones, with no pro sub titles?

Highschool of the Dead is pretty decent, once you get past the whole 'giant breasted Japanese teen schoolgirls' gimmick.

I see Jitendar Canth that you are reviewing the Blu-Ray Studio Ghibli movies, i will need to upgrade to these as they become available.

I own just about every Original Japanese DVD release of these movies and compared to US, Pal, both UK and French versions, the Japanese prints are pristine in picure quality and sound is much better.....i have compared them.

I wonder how much of an upgrade it would be buying the new Blu-Rays of these old animated movies, i have bought a few Blu-Ray movie upgrade of old films and they look worse than my DVD versions.
