Think I'm one of the last people in the country to see Avatar - and didn't really want to like it too much - maybe because of the ridiculous amount of hype it's had...
So...... thought it was a bit overlong but ........fantastic!!!  The last hour or so are stunning - and the last 1/2 an hour or so I watched otfen with my mouth open.  Amazing blu-ray and with the 5.1 pumped up, the sound effects were just incredible.  Loved it. Happy

I enjoyed it at the cinema in 3D but will wait for the re-release later in the year...

Add me to the list of people who haven't seen it yet.
Have rented it on BD from Lovefilm, but no sign of it turning up yet.

Couldn't resist buying it in Sainsburys yesterday on BD. I'm sure I'll eventually get the 3D version when I've bought a 3D TV in 10 years time! Grinning

Saw it last night on plain old dvd without 5.1 surround sound up and running. Would have preferred to see it at the flicks with all the 3 dimensionals and the special electrodes attached to my genitals (that's what they do, right?) but hey ho.

I actually really enjoyed it, perhaps because it's been slagged off so much I wasn't expecting too much. Looked amazing, even on plain old telly (quite large 47" screen mind you).

Okay, I am no longer an Avatar virgin, and I've broken my DVD/Bluray drought.

I could riff for half an hour about in our house the movie's known as 'AVE A BANANA, and Mum wondering why the hero wanted to join the NAAFI, but I won't.

It's a hell of a movie.  Yes, the script's sadly lacking, and yes, I can see why people call it Dances With Smurfs.  It's fairly po-faced, reinforces that Ugly American Raping The World stereotype, and the Natives Are Always Mystical Buggers stereotype as well.

But for all that, it's a stonking ride.  Sheer hokum and the sort of thing Hollywood does best.  I'm glad I saw it in traditional 2D, because I was able to concentrate on the movie not the whizbang tech.  Visually the movie is in a class of its own and I'm looking forward to another screening to really drink it all in.
