Anyway of translating amazon.jp as i dont read Japanese too well!!! Agree with the Weinstein comment but Tarantino has always shafted us, other regions are always getting better versions of his films, the 10th and 15th anniversary editions of Reservoir Dogs for a start. And wheres the sodding commentaries, for a man who purports to love film he doesnt seem to make much effort in this department.
By the way Deathprrof was useless and Planet Terror rocked.....thats my humble opinion and im sticking to it
well, despite p***-poor box office performance in the states, and Death Proof and Planet Terror taking relative pennies in the UK, the full original double bill Grindhouse is getting a UK theatrical release.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason it flopped was because the Weinstein Company f***ed up the marketing in the US. The average American citizen didn't know what the film was, or what it was about. That's what forced the splitting up and seperate marketing of the individual features.
That in turn meant we got f***ed over in the UK (where Tarantino's films usually do really well).

I must admit that it probably didn't work out as I'd expected because of Death Proof
I'm not a fan of either the Grindhouse version or the full version, but the full version is definitely the better film.
I'm still looking forward to Machete for later this year if they do release it

So... I just saw Death Proof this evening, I presume it was the full version, since it was just a shade under 2 hours? (Just checked the box, says extended and unrated so unless theres another version of the film in the box, and I think the second disc is extras, it's taht)
Really enjoyed it, I'm always a big fan of long Tarrantino dialogue sequences anyway, and it has lots of those, but I was also pleasantly surprised how good and long the action sequences where.
Wasn't expecting much, and quite liked all the gimmicky retro editing stuff that seemed to be around for a few minutes and then dissappear completely so as not to get in the way of it all.
Or have I made a huge mistake and watched the better of the two Grindhouse flicks first? Is Planet Terror much cop? I have that too.

Planet terror's alot of fun Rob, particularly if you're into Rodriquez's other stuff. The cast are fantastic, and it's chock full of various amusing technical effects that make it look nicely retro. I thought Death Proof was the bettter film, but Terror is much more accessible.

I preferred Planet Terror.
I think the easiest comparison is if you have now seen the Machete full movie.
It's basically an OTT horror b-movie comedy in that sense, so is quite different in tone to Deathproof, which is more "serious".
