He definitely flirted with the female characters in DW, and the female members of Torchwood, before finally going completely gay in the second season of Torchwood, I think. It was a marked change in his character and obviously a conscious decision of the writers/producers to subtly alter his sexuality, in my opinion.

I preferred him as bisexual actually. It was funny that he would flirt with a girl one moment and a fella the next.

I don't think Barrowman nor the writers could ever decide just what Jack's character was over the years. I loved Moffat's Captain Jack creation back in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, but not this goddawful series or dreadful actor. Sorry.

Thoughts on the series so far?

Too long

Too Gay

Seems they (I assume the American half of the partnership) have decided to stretch out what could have been a good 4 - 6 episode storyline into 10 episodes that contains far too much filler, to be honest its getting like 'the event' where Im close to giving up as Im not interested in what the bloody miracle is anymore. Im not homophobic, but I cant help thinking this is some kind of RTD/Barrowman vanity project to shove as much gayness on the screen as possible. Ive watched so far so will stick it out to the end, but if this is the future of Torchwood I dont think I'll bother anymore. Shame as it was a good series/spinoff

It is way too long, I said that before. And yes, it drags like the Event did, which I assumed was the American influence.

If there is to be another series, they need to speed up the action, reduce the infill and get back to basics.

I will see it through to the end, but am finding it very frustrating to watch.

The gay sex scenes don't bother me, but they are unnecessary. There is no reason why it should be that kind of show.

Too long, too "Meh!" too much focus on the US cast.

Really hoped for another CoE that even had my 80 year old Dad hooked to it.

Let's face it though.  There would have been just as many complaints about heterosexual sex scenes.  Barrowman's pointed out in an interview that nobody has turned a hair about the violence in the story.  "Nobody complained that I was shot in the head four times, there were burning people in ovens, that I was stabbed by a mob of 50 people hundreds of times and I was hanging dripping my blood in a pit." (to quote Digital Spy)

I feel uncomfortable myself watching scenes of intimacy with my family present, so I understand what gets the bedwetting fraternity up in arms but I wonder how screwed up we are as a civilization when it's fine to see people being slaughtered on screen, and yet two blokes snogging threatens to get questions asked in Parliament.

Maybe we should ban sex altogether and have done with it.  Give the cockroaches the shot we promised them.

Finally seen episode 3 of this, yes I'm just catching up with Torchwood! Saw the US cut, and honestly cannot understand why anybody other than Mary Whitehouse could even remotely have a problem with it.

It wasn't explicit at all, and it was intercut with two straight people, done rather well I thought.

In fact I was so amazed having read so much gaffaw about this that I could not believe this was the cut people had a problem with, so checked out the BBC one and had seen they'd cut the entire sex scenes out, what 20 seconds there was of them.

And I have no idea why they would bother, tbh it was so tame it could have almost gone out before 9pm.

You'd have to be homophobic and/or religious to have a problem with it tbh.

Rant over.

Watching Episode 5, and it seems Torchwood uses Media Player Classic for it's transatlantic secure link video calls...
