I don't think it is really. £90,000 a week - and he was a free transfer.

Therein lies the stupidity inherent in football though, eh?
His ridiculous £90k a week suddenly becomes acceptable because there was no fee?
Would you still think £90k a week was fine if there had been a fee?
Joe Cole's not a £90k a week player by any stretch of the imagination, IMO, and I'm glad Tottenham didn't break their wage structure to sign him.

There's a 'money's too tight to mention' joke in there somewhere.

Or maybe not, if they can afford to pay world class money for Joe Cole....

Yes it does.  Although 'sadly', as I did say..  The lack of fee makes a massive difference.
Surely any business looks at the total cost of 'ownership'? Happy
EDIT:Not really much different to buying a car in many of the available schemes I suppose?  What you need to pay 'up front' makes a huge difference on what you feel to be a fair price to pay monthly doesn't it?  No real difference here for me.........
If you felt there was a player worth say £15-20m and then say 60K a week - which are far from unusual figures, what would you feel then?
I think a player of Cole's calibre, for the price we'll effectively pay, is a good price.....

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

We've signed Wilson too....two brit players in a week. Wonder if this will help Torres decide to stay

In that scenario, whilst the total cost of 'ownership' may end being the same, at least the fee filters down through football.
Even grass roots clubs can benefit from a premiership player's sale, if they were savvy enough to have sell-on clauses for their star players (which they usually are).
I remember a colleague in London telling me his little local club had a £30k windfall when one of their ex-boys was involved in a big money transfer.
In Joe Cole's case, the only person benefitting is Joe Cole.
Instead of football benefitting from diluting £15million and him getting £60k a week, he's getting £90k a week.
It's ridiculous, and I really am genuinely pleased Tottenham told him to rethink his wage demands or toss off.

In this day and age how the hell do you have £90k per week for Joe Cole as OTT??

Thats £40k less than Lampard and Terry
Thats probably similarly lower than Gerrard and Torres
Thats probably similarly lower than Rooney and Ferdinand
If reports are to be believed thats £30k less than Gareth Barry and £130k less than Yaya Toure

I also doubt that £90k per week is a pay rise from his Chelsea contract so, if thats right, he's not even taking mroe out of the game (like you suggest)

Wonder how much you will pay Raul if this morning's rumours are correct? Can you see him coming for the reduced salary of £60k per week?

I thought you wanted the Spurs management to up the wage structure when you lost Berbatov (given he was on what, £30k per week ish when he left?)

Because I don't think he's a £90k a week player, simple as that.
I don't rate him as any better than any existing Spurs player, all of whom are on a good bit less than that.
And if Spurs do (inevitably) have to break the wage structure, I want it to be for someone far better than Joe bloody Cole! Confused
