A playoff for the current 4th place Champions League place.. Good or bad?

Seems one thing being considered by the Premier League is introducing a play-off for the sides finishing 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in the Premier League. Personally I think it's a bad idea that is again (just like it was when it stopped being the European Cup) just about introducing more games and making more money. when the hell would they play these extra 3 or 4 games each? Now obviously it's been fairly predictable for the last good few years who would be in the top four - and only slightly less so what the order of those would be.. But that certainly seems to be changing this season and, I think, probably from now on? I just feel it should be 'You know what you need to do to be hopefully playing CL football next season - finish in the top 4. You know fifth isn't enough - never mind being able to finish a third of the way down the league and still qualify.. Confused But maybe Spurs/Villa (or other sides that 'traditionally' just miss out) may think it's a good idea? Although when Everton did make it a few seasons back it didn't really do them any good?
So, good or bad idea?

The reason the Championship do the playoff is that the match routinely does that division's best rating all year.

As Brian Glanville would say, all this is is more from the "Greed Is Good" league.

I'm really going off the premiership, even though i'm a Stoke fan - its all about money when you look past all the egotistical half-arsed players. There's no sense of 'team' anymore. I used to love the game but now it doesnt have the same magic it used to have. I watched my first game of rugby the other day (Wales vs. Scotland) and was amazed. I'm converted.

Anything that stops Liverpool getting an automatic place for the CL in 4th place is a good thing...

He he. Thing is, not necessarily Liverpool any more. This weekend will have a massive say on that I think..

You're right SJ, but when you finish 5th, it just doesn't matter...

Now, I have no idea if this season is a one off or not, but if it isn't, then we have a huge amount of teams battling it out for that 4th spot. Play offs might destroy this, however in previous seasons it would give middle of the table teams a more interesting season.

Seems a bit unfair to me, one reason is if you are 6th (for instance) & you know you can cruise to the play off's you may put out lesser teams to play United & Chelsea & a better team for the lesser placed teams. It could alter the game tactically. My heart says good, My head says bad.

Totally against it, even if Spurs could theoretically benefit from it.
Stupid idea.
I mean, let's say the team that finishes 4th has 'spent itself' in doing so.
They've achieved fourth by battling hard and fighting injury.
But their squad is now decimated by injuries and they can't muster a decent side for the play off game.
Hardly fair that one or two games (whatever) could undermine their whole season's efforts. Confused
