Perhaps 'lacking up front' (in your current state) is a more accurate statement.
A lot's going to depend on how many players step up to the table really.
Utd are relying on:
-Owen to be fit and to score goals (which in fairness I reckon he'll get 15all comps easy if he's fit all season)
-Nani to stop trying to emulate Ronaldo and play to his own strengths and on a consistent basis
-Valencia to settle fairly quickly and add goals to his game (none last season)
-Berbatov to get more goals this season (I'm quite confident on him having a better season anyway
-Rooney staying forward and scoring on a more regular basis and pushing the top scorers in the league
-Wellbeck, Macheda, Tosic and Obertan to add in with their share if and when they get their chances.
In fairness don't see us winning the league, really think it will be either Arsenal* or even possibly City.
*Arsenal is not a knee jerk reaction to them winning one game 6-1. Basically just over a season ago Arsenal were as good as the invincibles and storming to the league until that game against Birmingham when Eduardo did his leg. They then fell to pieces and lost the league and had a really poor start to last season.
I think backend of the season from Christmas onwards their form was probably the same as all the top 4. They've lost Toure and Adebayor but I don't think it's as significant as the two things they have over last season.
Mainly that Walcott and Fabregas could both be fit for the season seen as last year they only played in around half of their games. Clichy missed a fair few games last season aswell.
Arshavin has made a big difference. Plus Eduardo looks like he may be fit and he'll score when he plays.
Vermalen has came in at centre back and although the jury may be out on him, he's looked alright so far.

To get back to Liverpool though, I still think they were "lucky" with injuries last season.
Obviously Torres was injured for a long spell and missed half the season as well as playing when unfit, but there weren't too many other prolonged spells or injury or mass injuries at the same time. I think there was only 2games where both Torres and Gerrard didn't play.
If you look at Liverpool's second choice team above, there's not too many of them who've actually played many games which shows as much as not many with experience have left the club this summer.
If you lose 5/6 first teamers from the Liverpool team at the moment, depending on the position if could massively weaken depending who get's injured. Obviously of the subs, Aurellio, Benayoun, the 3rd centreback are all "proven" quality so they can step in to certain positions.
Apparently Lucas played well last night but the juries still out and Babel and Voronin join the list of players that the Liverpool fans themselves generally don't like/rate.

or even possibly City
Interesting 1mills. I can see them breaking into 3 or 4th spot. Reckon Chelsea will be champions. It would be great though if City could finish on top.
I've said all along that I thnk Chelsea are favourites this season. I don't really know why just a hunch
Mills, I know the point you make about the squads. I understand it and kind of agree with it to some extent.
However, football is rarely about the names and individuals. Its how people fit as a team. If the Pool second string is seen as weaker on paper it doesnt mean it can't operate better on the pitch.
The one reason I think your club are being questioned this year is because you have had for the last 2/3 years one of those players who has potentially slightly crossed the "rarely about individuals" line.
You had a player who scored a shed load, set up a lot and ran teams ragged. He also gave them something to think about and at times I am sure that teams in an effort to shut him down left others open to take advantage.
With him gone thats a big gap to fill. It looks like SAF is trying to do it by increasing the sum of contributions from the other parts
Lawro on MOTD last night said he thinks you need one more in that front four who can help out - I;m not totally convinced that you don't already have them but that they are a little "green" and that time may be your hindrence and not lack of having the player on the books
Its going to be an interesting season as there will be lots of teams who can give the "top four" problems and take points off them (and I wouldnt have put Burnley in that group so that possibly shows this point even further)
It could be a fun few months !!!

That is him indeed. Think I linked it yesterday somewhere.
Cost about £2.5m (assuming its being confirmed, when i saw yesterdaqy it was just him saying he'd accpeted an offer not Liverpool confirming it)

Don't get me wrong, like I said I don't fancy us to win it either, but just think your team could struggle to cope with injuries more than anything.
My mate's have got a new Liverpool blog site going so I've just copied and pasted a bit of both of those threads to put on their forums, but looked up some more info to back up the point about Liverpool being "lucky" with injuries last season.
Quote:
Torres played 24league games, Gerrard played 30.
In comparison at Utd where we were “lucky” in that it was mainly short term injuries, two key players had the same stats as them. Rio only played 24games, Rooney played 30.
In comparison at Chelsea, Carvahlo 12games, Essien 11games, Joe Cole 13games, Drogba 24games. Pretty much the spine of that team, excluding Terry and Fat Frank.
In comparison at Arsenal, Fabregas 22games, Walcott 22games, Adebayor 27games, Clichy 31games, Rosicky and Eduardo 0 games
I think Chelsea will be massively stronger this year as they've bought well in the summer as Zhirkov and Strurridge are both good players, but if Carvahlo, Essien, Joe Cole and Drogba are fit will make a massive difference.
Ancelotti though only won 1 Serie A title in 9years there and I've just got a feeling there will be a bit more concentration on Champions League than the Premiership which may cost a few points.
