I see Strachan may be going from Celtic in the SPL to Southampton in League 1.
Not sure he could handle such a change in the level of football...that's a hell of a step up. Winking

I'm sure he will do fine against the bigger opposition too though bowfer. Not our fault Aberdeen play to the standards they do now is it. We can only concern ourselves with how we match up against whoever we come up against. THe SPL is only part of the equation. He cost more than it would cost to buy half the Aberdeen first team for god sake.

He'd have to be pretty pish not to do well in the SPL though.
Whether he'll be able to up his game for the big matches remains to be seen.
Look at Larsson again.
Unstoppable in the SPL, didn't do much at all in Europe.
Same with Samaras (sp) and McDonald.
Both scoring regularly(ish) in the SPL, both more often than not pish in Europe.

I beg to differ as far as Larsson is concerned. Scored plenty of goals in European cometition at club and international level. Think you'll find he also "won" the CL for Barcelona in their final with Arsenal. Injury didn't help his career at Barca either and he ended up at Man U as a stop gap attacker. You don't have to play you career in England to be a top footballer you know. The Italian & Spanish leagues can be just as strong. Personally I reckon Spain is THE league at the moment,

Spooky i see the oracle has started the season as he finished last, slagging anything to do with celtic, hes on more money despite the fact that all reports say he is on a minimum of 5-10k a week less playing for us than he would be down south.....

If he's only earning £5k a week less than he could in the EPL, then I can see why he may have chosen the lure of CL football.
However, it also proves a point that you've denied all along.
That Celtic pay some of their players premiership wages.
£5k a week less than EPL wages to play 90% SPL games is lot of money.

We have never disagreed that some celtic players earn the equivalent of many players at mid to lower end of EPL. A 60,000 stadium and global merchandise sales allow that. However we cannot match the wages of the high earners at the mid to lower EPL clubs nor 90% of first teamers of the big 6 or 7 in EPL. From what I here players earning 25-30k a week at Celtic will be in the minority. A larger quantity of players at most EPL clubs will be earning that and more. And thats before you add in the vasts sums spent of transfer fees. If getting folks through the gates and merchandise sales were the key to club finances most of the clubs couldn't afford the wages Sky tv money is the difference. There is no big lure for players to join Hull and their like. You never hear a player say "as soon as I heard Portsmouth were in for me" now do you or "I remember watching Hull as a lad and falling in love - unless maybe they supported them of course. Offering good wages makes it seem attractive. There are many attractions to playing for Celtic though (bigger club, more illustrious surroundings at the club, large crowds to name a few)- although I realise it wouldn't appeal to you bowfer. They never seem to walk away saying "god I hated it a Celtic" - unless they couldn't get a first team game. So therefore i'd suggest it can't be that bad now can it playing for the hoops. When you also have their player friends convincing them its the right, even though they played for their main rivals, i'm convinced they have a good time even more.

Defensive midfielder N'Guemo confirms he will be finalising his move to the bhoys on Monday. Apparently we are paying well over the odds and paying him highly inflated wages just to ensure he comes to our poor wee team Winking . Or rather that will be someones take on it all come Monday. Grinning

Not long to go until 2009/10 tour kicks off. Happy

Yeah playing in the inhospitable cold wastelands could be tricky...but I'm sure Dynamo Moscow will cope! Winking

That is a very tough draw. Celtic will have to be on top form to get through IMO.
