LIVERPOOL Season 08/09 thread....

Well.....here we go again... How are we going to do....
Pre-season signings, Robbie Keane apart had given me no hope at all for doing much/any better for this season.. More average, fairly cheap signings in for the playing side (that you just can't imagine Utd, Chelsea or Arsenal ever being interested in) and often just as important, incredibly (for me..), 2 awful backroom 'signings'. Sammy Lee back again... Sad Great player for us. Ever present backroom/training through the 'dark' years and then proved how poor a manager he was at Bolton. So we sign him as our Assistant Manager.. And Pellegrino.. lol. I'm still scarred from some of his (albeit very few) appearances for us.. And now he's back as first team coach - specialising in defence... Shocked
Anyway.........we then had a decent pre-season with a couple of nice wins (Rangers and Lazio) and I thought "Hmmm, maybe not....". Then came Standard Liege on Wednesday. As bad a performance as I've seen in a while - in a very important game too. No organisation, no midfield to speak of and just hoofing it upfield to Torres again. The Keane/Torres partnership will take some time for sure but you'd have sworn we had a 6ft 7" striker up there.... Maybe nobody told them he'd gone... (think he's gonna have a great season...). Very telling that Alonso played and was therefore cup-tied. I don't think there was a single strike on goal for us in the whole game.. Confused

Huge game today for us and we really need to get a great start and beating mid-table sides and turning far more draws into wins....

Here's hoping.............. Happy

So where do you think you'll finish at the end of the season?

I predict 4th.

If Weds was anything to go by then we'll be lucky to break the top six.

As youve already stated all of our signings are preety unimpressive and nothing more than a sideways step, glad we didnt get Barry (yet) especially for the price discussed.

Hopefully Keane and Torres can gel but this season will be tougher for King Fernando as the element of surprise is gone.

Lets just hope we start better than Spurs Happy

Serious question but who is Damien Plessis and how good is he to be getting a game in front of Alonso??

lol - just come on to say you were probably talking about today's game and not the one I mentioned... In which case you were right..
To answer your question then....he's about 20, played a couple of games and we'll have to wait and see.... Ahead of Alonso though..... you're 'avin' a laugh... Still, squad rotation gets earlier and earlier.....
A (late) win today, Torres again....... Happy

Well not the most convincing of games but it's the result that matters. Grinning

So that's 3 Premierships games, 3 poor performances however we still haven't lost yet.

Watching the match against Villa yesterday i found myself screaming at Rafa when we lost Torres to injury and who did he replace him with ........Ngog !!!! WTF !!! Angry Surely Babel was the perfect replacement,The side looked very makeshift especially Midfield.
Man Utd next Confused lets hope Rafa can get it right for that one.
