Hi I am in process of buying a wide screen tv from unbeatable.co.uk. What is their after sales service like? Is it worth buying extended cover?

Unbeatable are very popular, unfortunately I havent had dealings with them myself.

With regard to extended cover however I personally don't think this is worth buying from any vendor. You get your 12 months cover as it is, and if something is going to go wrong this is more than likely the time.

I have a free warranty with mine but I know if i didnt and something went wrong with my TV in the second or third year I would be straight onto the retailer and also the Manufacturer for a new one anyway, 'fitness for purpose' and all that, it is reasonable to expect a widescreen tv to last.

If you do decide to go for extended cover check it out thoroughly, most are often not worth the paper they're written on, check the small print, even Watchdog advised 'against' taking out these extended warranties!!

Just a thought but wouldn't it be covered on your household insurance anyway?

I've used unbeatable several times with no problems and would recommend them.

Which regards to household insurance, I suspect you'll find mechanical breakdown is not one of the so called 'perils' which is covered. It may be covered if you drop the thing (if you have accidental cover) but if it just stops working, probably not. If in doubt, check the policy details.

I think all major cdreit cards do something similar, such as VISA, etc check with your credit card company, assuming that is how you are paying!

I nearly used them. The item I wanted (Yamaha RX-V620RDS) was listed as in stock, so I placed the order. A few days later it was being prepared. The next day it was out of stock! When I phoned, they confirmed it was out of stock and they didn't know when it would be back in. Needless to say I found it a tad disturbing - where did my prepared item go?

Anyway, I cancelled and placed my order with hifijunkies, which with free delivery and a free 5 year warranty worked out slighly cheaper anyway!

John Lewis are still doing an inline price match. You can get the tv from them with a 5 year warranty!

Ive used them twice

1st order- a tv - no probs
2nd order - dvd player - when ordered page said "in stock" however, next day they phoned me to say it was out of stock. It took nearly 2 weeks to get a new one, but they sent it, and their C.S was very good throughout. I obviously didn't have to continue with the order, but thought i'd wait as they were such a bargain!
