Ubuntu are moving from the traditional flyout menu interface and introducing their HUD.
Looks like it should be pretty simple to start using and has potential make it easier to find what you want to quicker rather than going through menus looking for the correct command in apps. But will it catch on?

I'm not convinced.
The use of quick search functionality can be very useful (as it is in Windows 7) but to be used almost exclusively instead of menus I'm not so sure about.
I'll be downloading it anyway and giving it a whirl.
I've been following the stories about it for a few weeks now, and it seems a bit off to me, as in it's very good, if you already know what you're looking for!

If I'm using MS Windows, I often do windows button r winword to run Word, using linux, alt-f2 as I start to type fire, it can auto complete firefox, which is great
It's funny that to "compete" against that, Mint are using Cinnamon which is more like Gnome 2 ![]()
As ppl said with their last big change, sometimes it seems that they want to change just for change's sake.
I suppose at the end of the day, it's just more choice, so if you don't like it, you don't have to use it, if you like Ubuntu, but not HUD, just add lxde, or install lubuntu etc, it's not like other OSs where you're stuck with one WM/DE ![]()

I actually decided to install it a couple of days before release. One of the daily builds. It's really nice, but I had all sorts of freezes and lockups, so had no problem going back (moving on?) to openSUSE with Gnome 3. I hear the final was still plagued with these issues, and that the Nvidia driver is causing the problem. I'll perhaps give it a go when a new driver is out, but honestly? I'm very set and happy in my new home.
Ubuntu has come a long way though. ![]()
Went through the upgrade from the CD image, rebooted and now locks my laptop up completely every time. awesome.
