MKVs showing up as "other media"....?
posted by skirpy on Thursday, 19th January 2012, 20:10

Elite

I seem to be having a load of problems sharing my media lately.....

I had a modded version of Windows 7 running on my PC for the past few months and i could share my MKV files and blu-ray rips streamed to my boxee box, but for no reason my Boxee decided it couldn't see my shared folders a couple of weeks ago and having a look on the Boxee forums, it does not look like there is a solution to fix it.

I have a jailbroken PS3 and could stream all my media through windows media player to the showtime plugin i have installed and that works just as good but my old JP PS3 is a bit noisy now and it gets a bit annoying after a while.

So i decided to scrub everything again and do a dual boot with XP and Win7 and now all my shares are working with the boxee with both OS.

But i want to use windows media player to share my MKVs with the PS3 in my other room as the native showtime player can transcode all the 1080p HD movies i have......PS3Media server and Tversity can't stream at this high bitrate.

I have another problem with windows media player now.......all my MKVs are showing up as "other media" , the movies play fine on my PC as i have all the correct codecs but my PS3 is not seeing them with showtime?

I have tried a few other codec packs, done a reg fix that is supposed to work and disabled the enabled media features in Turn Windows features on or off but my MKVs are not showing up in the shared video section of media player.

Anybody else got any other ideas?

Cheers.
