don't think there's such a thing.

RJ11 (for modem / ADSL) is 4 wires whereas RJ45 (ethernet) is 8 wires.

pretty sure that they're not interchangeable.

Cheers Ste.

Mmmm confused now, basically I want to move our router its near the desktop at the moment, with a long cable rj11 from BT ADSL socket to router and then the usual rj45 from router to desktop.

I now want to move router right next to ADSL socket (purely to improve wireless signal around the house) and use the existing (rj11) long lead I used before from ADSL to router, to use as an ethernet cable back to desktop using adapters so the desktop is hard-wired.

Does that make any sense? Hope so! Cheers

Does to me but what I think you need to do is either use the existing router-socket cable and have it bunched up as spare (might slightly affect signal and may be worth obtaining shorter version of same) and replace router to PC with a longer RJ45 to RJ45 cable.
I'm sure one of our many IT gurus (geeks Grinning) will come along and give you the max distances etc covered by the networking cable but wouldn't making the PC wireless be an option and do away with that cable altogether.....?

Buy a USB WiFi dongle or internally fitted card.

My outlook on life is positive & carefree, I'm positive that I'm a pessimist & I don't care what what you think.

Never has so little had to be explained by me to so many so often.

Cat5 cable is max of 100Mtrs so no problems in a normal house run.
