Internet Explorer 9 officially out
posted by Rob Shepherd on Wednesday, 16th March 2011, 17:59

Super Admin

My initial thoughts here if anybody is interested.

Short, short, short version, not going to sway any non-IE users but good for web developers and those using IE8 or less (and have Vista or Windows 7).

there's a few showdowns, reviews etc, just read these

IE9 vs Firefox 4 vs Chrome 10

IE9 vs Chrome 10 vs Firefox 4 RC vs Opera 11.01 vs Safari 5 - The BIG browser benchmark!

I read a similar one the other day, where they did some tests, and similarly all they proved was that if you did the test Mozilla used on all browsers, Firefox was fastest, if you did the one MS used on all browsers, IE was fastest etc.

I think in the end they put Chrome as fastest, and Firefox as slowest, but explained that by doing tests as "real world" rather than "lab" Firefox has various extensions installed, which made it the best to use, but slowed it down.

That is how I see it. I like Firefox due to adblockplus, downthemall and a few other extensions, haven't found good equivalents in others. the adblock equivalent that blocked ads well in Chrome, seemed to really slow it down.

Seems a bit like other things, no obvious best, depends on what you want, and Firefox still seems to be champ for flexibility in terms of add ons, but it has a head start on Chrome which appears to be gaining in popularity.

For me Chrome seems better for Flash, but that may be due to using 64 bit linux and Adobe rather than Firefox.

Seems they're all going to start blaming your graphics card drivers if you have problems now though Sad

Did IE9 out itself, or was it outed in some kiss-and-tell scandal in the News of the World?

Firefox 4 officially out Tuesday, apparently no changes from the RC.

Generally the thing which seems to chug Firefox for me is always Flash, everytime it goes slow and becomes unresponsive, the moment I kill the plugin-container task it's back working fine again.

Web Browser Grand Prix 3: IE9 Enters The Race

Tom's conclusion is interesting, last page has a useful table to compare performence on different content.

FF is 3.6 so I assume they'll update soon.

The cynical side of me wonders why they didn't wait one day and do it with Firefox 4, or even the RC which is apparently identical.

IE9 is Most Energy Efficient Browser, So Says MS

ok, energy efficient browsing, that's odd, I wonder what tests some-one else will think of to show they're best?

They do seem to really like IE9. Personally I quite like the fact we have more choice, Chrome is probably the browser that made the others speed up more than any other.

My performance in Firefox 4 is not even close to what IE9 can do in the speed demos here.  Is it just me?
