There is a lot of hype about the new A Team film

Seriously, that's the best example you could find?

I considered the HTC Desire, but the battery life is poor when compared to the iPhone and since I've invested so much at home in my music collection on iTunes, and already have a Macbook, it makes more sense to stick with the Apple brand
Suprised you found the life poor on the HTC, mine was shocking for a couple of weeks but once it had gone through a few recharge cycles the battery lasts a day which is good considering I hammer it, the new jesus phone must have an great battery.

I just used double twist to rip everything straight out of itunes

My friends who have the HTC Desires (2 of them in my office) get about a day from it (and they're fairly light users).

On my current iPhone I watch about an hour (at least) of video a day and listen to music for about 3 hours at least. Only make a few (short) calls and a few texts. Email is checked every hour or so, but 3G is switched off most of the time. I get (IIRC) around 2 to 2.5 days use out of it, and apparently the iPhone 4 has better battery life than the iPhone 3GS.

i quite liked doubletwist, it's very itunes'ish, (tho thats not huge huge endorsment lol) my only gripe was it couldn't handle .m4b's which i use exclusively for my audiobooks, as it provides better bookmarking etc,  as for battery life,  i do find the iphone better by quite a big margin, & mines back to normal after the ios4.01 update, i use about half a charge from 7am to 5pm, & thats listening to audio & a bit of web surfing, whilst my collegues desire needs to be charged mid afternoon with about the same usage.
