I'd love to get one, mainly for the screen resolution increase, but that would mean buying one on O2 PAYG and then unlocking it.
My work provide me with a Vodafone blackberry (with normal sized sim) - so I pay nothing for monthly rental (I see no point changing that )
Since Vodafone don't do the iphone on PAYG I'd need to buy an O2 one and then either stick my old O2 'pay monthly' sim (pay £0 annually for that one) into the device and request O2 to unlock it to be able to use it day to day.

But that would still be £550 at least...not sure that's worth it given I have an iPhone 3G at the mo (soon to receive a 3GS from a work colleague if he upgrades).

This all assumes that I've cut my sims down to size and then used trays to get them back to normal size when I need them elsewhere!

I'm on Orange, so I guess I'd try and keep that. When they announce their pricing

I guess going from a 3G is less worth it than a 2.5G, unless you find the menus and browsing slow. Going from a 3GS to a 4 would be even less of a jump I imagine.

I wouldn't mind a proper GPS though, the triangulation sucks, and Orange's Edge coverage is awful. If I arrive somewhere and need to get to somewhere near on foot, lacking 3G and GPS is a major problem.

Steve Jobs unveils reasons why your iPhone is already rubbish

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has unveiled a series of reasons why your existing iPhone is now disappointingly obsolete, and why you should immediately spend £400 on the new iPhone 4.0.

Jobs presented the new devices at the Apple World Developers Conference in San Francisco, an event which has become synonymous with Jobs telling Apple users exactly why their current devices and software were actually rubbish all along.

The new iPhone 4.0 is seen as the ‘biggest jump’ in making your existing iPhone obsolete since the original device was launched three years ago.

Jobs opened the presentation by saying that “iPhone 4.0 does all these really cool things, which you’re old one definitely doesn’t, so you should ditch it immediately.”

“Such is the scale of advancements we’ve made that 2010 Steve Jobs would walk up to 2009 Steve Jobs holding a bit ‘L’ on his forehead before giving him an atomic wedgie.”

“Getting our users locked into a two year contract on a device which is obsolete within a year, is the Apple way, and we’ve really outdone ourselves this time.”

Improvements

Among the improvements are features that users of phones not made by Apple have benefited from for years, such as being able to do more than one thing at once, having decent mobile reception, and not needing to plug it in ever single bloody hour.

Jobs continued, “We see multitasking as hugely significant to our borderline-cultish followers.”

“The single biggest complaint we had from iPhone users was that they could smugly demonstrate just one app at a time to their bewildered friends, but with multiple apps open at the same time they are now able to keep their disinterested friends bored for hours on end.”

“We also see HD video as an important step in removing the excuses for you never getting round to making that film you’ve been talking about.”

“Of course, you’ll still never actually make it, but it won’t be the iPhone’s fault any more.”

I just ordered an upgrade to 3GS....
Costing me nowt though (work).

Apart from the new screen which until I see I won't comment on is there anything that has been updated that does not just bring it into line with every other phone out there?

a lot of it's down to iphone OS,  which for my purposes is extremely good,  on paper, the desire was quite a lot better than the iphone, but i found the iphone does "what it does" better than anything else currently on the market,  the 4th gen iphone seems to address the hardware shortcomings (in relation to newer HTC's) & aparently beats the very good screen on the desire & has further improved the battery life,  i'll be getting one asap.... aparently o2 are going to offer an upgrade package for customers allready locked into a contract, but no doubt it'll be a rip off

imo,  Android is great, but iphone OS is better, BUT...  android is maturing incredibly fast, & with FULL flash integration iminent, there are some good reasons to give Android a try.  Apple being Apple, they'll stop flash integration happening untill they can have full controll over it,  which will probably never happen

I'm sticking with the 3GS I've ordered.
I called our mobile phone provider, they say they've no idea when Vodafone will be getting the new one, and no idea of upgrade cost.
I'll upgrade to the IOS4 though, probably (yet to examine the changes)

My 3G won't be able to Multi-task amongst other things.
