lol, i deffo typed Froyo not frodo lol,  damned iphone spellcorrect...

anyway,  got the phone last night, & have gone through the update, & it doesn't install android 2.2 froyo, all it does is install vodash1tware,  BUT.. due to the general outrage of voda users, vodahave agreed toremove it all when the froyo 2.2 update goes live (within about 7 days from now aparently)

have installed the doubletwist app & also astroplayer, both seem good, & astro has bookmarking functions (tho you have to manually click to add a bookmark, rather than auto-resume Sad )  the only thing i have noticed is te headphone volume seems a little bit lower than the iphones Confused

I've been looking at Iphone 4's and the HTC desire in the past few days.  Don't know why, don't particularly need a new phone.

Missus is after phone though and seen on Orange can get the Desire for £25 a month on 18month contract with 300mins, 3000texts plus 500mb of internet so think that's the way forward and after playing with hers I can decide what I want Winking

Meridian player is pretty good and has auto resume at least when I watch 24 it does, fairly sure the music bit is the same so might be worth looking at.

cheers Happy  meridian seems like the best bet so far,  gonna check to see if the mic button pauses/play, if so it's probably gonna be my stock player Happy

i've made a real effort to get into the desire (tbh, i didn't rly give it a fair shake when i had the last one) & am constantly finding things i like, & am getting more & more comfortable with it as i go along, it's funny really,  one of the main quibles with the iphone is that we allways want it to costomise it more,  but the truth is it just does everything "out of the box" ie, the phone dialer/ipod/browser/etc are all pretty much bang on,  & whilst android is probably just as good, you gotta work hard to get it "just right"

the temptation of course,  is to sell my 3g & desire & just buy an iphone 4,  but i'm determined to make the desire work for me, simply because of the way apple have treated legacy upgrades, they really did ruin my perfectly good iphone 3g Sad  & the most annoying part of it is,  they won't even accept they fked up,  how hard would it be to enable an ios4 downgrade ?  but as usual apple cover there eyes "i see no ships....."

brilliant hardware, ****e corperate philosophy Confused

I downgraded another iphone 3G at the weekend Ogs.
Didn't have any issues with that either...so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you.

Hopefully Apple are addressing it with their next firmware update.

so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you.

it's almost certainly just me being thick,  i find it hard following written instructions Sad  & i'm an impatient barstool lol....

back on the desire (or rather more specificaly Android)  another thing i really like is the google integration,  on the iphone i paid a couple of quid for an app called sync in a blink, which basicaly syncronises your google contacts, which was very handy, as to keep my contacts upto date & tidy, all i had to do was clean up my gmail contacts, then send my iphone contacts over, then re-sync the iphone via the app,  much easier to do on a pc, rather than putting them into the handset one by one,  but on the desire it just does it automaticaly, & it includes calenders etc Happy  it's a little thing, but it's very handy..  also, as you'd expect, google maps is quite a lot better on the Android handset,  & includes turn by turn voice navigation (robot voice unfortunately) & because of the HSPDA 3g, it loads & runs significantly faster than my iphone 3g...

the only thing i'm missing at the moment is firefox sync...  thats a great little iphone app, & probably my most used internet dohicky,  opera's ok, but compared to the iphone safari/firefox mobile browsers,  it's clunky & lacks features....  but mostly i miss the bookmarks, as in firefox home, it carries all my currently open tabs & bookmarks over,  having the current tabs open in the right page etc means if i'm doing something on the home pc before i go to work,  all i gotta do is open firefox home, & i can carry on from exactly the same place.....

have put it through a few recharging cycles, & had hoped the battery would improve, but it's not getting me through the day,  even with minimal browsing Sad (but playing audio continually via headphones)  gonna buy a 1600mah battery,  hopefully that'll give me the extra hour or so i need (it's died at 3.30pm every day)

i am liking the phone more & more though..  but there is one thing you guys might be able to help with,,,   i'm using my iphone headphones as they seem 100% compatable with the desire, But, when i answer a call by pressing the mic button,  it all works fine, but when the call ends, the screen doesn't auto-lock like the iphone does, & it's causing me problems...  i'm sure there's gotta be an option to make it auto lock on disconect, but for the life of me i can't find it Confused

Where you getting the 1600 battery from?

ebay, they are about a tenner,  the standard batteries are 1400, so the best i can hope for is 20% extra usage,  you can get much higher capacity ones, even upto 2400MAH, but these all come with a replacement back cover & make the phone very bulky Sad

there are a couple of viable options when it comes to better battery life,  obviously the higher cacity battery is the most tidy option, but these are also quite usefull,

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190428746665&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

they just clip into the charger port of the phone & provide power..
