being the complete moron i am i fell asleep last night with beer in hand and spilled it all over my netbook.

i quickly dried everything off and appeared to be okay. woke up this morning and keyboard is all sticky which hopefully will sort itself in no time, but a load of keys arent now working, which includes capslock, a load of numbers, although seem okay on letters.

is there anything i can do to sort?

buy a usb keyboard.

water is more or less the only drink that you have a chance may not wreck a keyboard as it doesn't have sticky sugary goodness to wreck the circuit board. Hwoever I've spilt water in a keyboard before and it's wrecked it.

maybe prise the keys off and use anti static foam cleaner?

I think netbook/laptop keyboards have an extra membrane layer usually under the keys so hoepfuly none will have go in the netbook itself.

bollocks.  was hoping there may be some way to save it.  usb keyboard would be no good as defeats teh portability of netbook.

where would i get anti static foam cleaner from.

just thinking i now have a broken netbook, to go with broken external hard drive, broken main computer,  two broken iphones.

maybe i should definately get the ps3 slim over the standard ps3 as i dont appear to be having much luck with things Winking

Insurance\ebay scrap unit for keyboard replacement are best suggestions?

Whats the netbook model?

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you’ve noticed.) You don’t normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

am i remembering right, that you have a sammy nc-10 ? looking on fleabay a new keyboard will set you back less than £20, tho, on the cursory glance i had, they where US layout, but, that wouldn't cause you huge problems (main one being lack of the £ symbol, but i'm sure there would be a way around that)

if your worried about fitting it, i'd be happy to do it for you.

Surely first stop is household insurance.
Depending on your excess it could be cheaper than the other options.

I was going to suggest using a straw to recover the lost beer, but I now see that it is the keyboard that was causing concern. Are you sure that you have your priorities right?

Cheers, I actually went out to get some yesterday and got a phone call from work that wound me up and made me forget that I needed to get it. Doh!

Contents insurance is a good shout, guessing the excess will be £50 plus though, will need to check. I don't personally have any contents as live in rented room for weekends and at my mum's in the week, so will need to be claim on her insurance.

It's a Samsung NC10 like Ogster had remembered above.

Cheers Ogster. Didn't realise I could replace the keyboard on a netbook, thought it might something internal that would be gone wrong that would be separate as don't really know how it all works inside in fairness.

Think I could get away without the £ sign, although is was frustrating just making the PS3 thread the other night trying to show prices as stands out a lot easier in number format. Current temporary solution is that one of the shift button works so that works for capitals and my mate msn'd me 1 through to 0 plus the £, which I have saved into notepad and put a quick link at the bottom for.

Couldn't bloody log into anything without it Sad

I think the answer then is I'll see about getting it off and cleaned properly, see if it does any good, then check insurance and check out how simple changing the keyboard looks. Then if it comes to it may have to bother you Og's for some help from distance (my car is also dead in the list of things that are broken, which means I now have to get the train between work in Llandudno and Chester which is costing about £16 a pop and means I might have to move back to Llandudno Sad

You know, in the olden days, people (whoever people are) sometimes said that you could wash your remote control in soapy water. Basically you dismantled it into the basic component parts, immersed it in the sort of stuff you wash dishes in, then rinse it thoroughly, and place in the airing cupboard until completely dry.

I did this on one or two, worked a treat. It was also a suggestion for cleaning keyboards.

Just make sure, if you decide to try it, that you remove the keyboard and only do it to that bit. In theory, providing it is very well rinsed, and very well dryed before connected, it can't do any harm!

If you go for it, take pictures of each step!
