you know, sometimes i can surprise myself & do something i didn't think i could do, like being super extra stupid..
decided to try avast on a mates pc i'm reformatting, he's been having probs with AVG running all day every day (scanning & hogging resources) so i google avast, go to the official site (& god damn it, i normaly double check it's not a spoof) & download the app, it then asks me to register before i continue, & asks me to send a single text to XXX.... it's at this point where i normaly tell it to go procreate with itself, but since it's a trusted program & it tells me it's a standard rate text (obviously this is the bit where i must have been suspending reality) i sent the text, i then got a balance check & it cost me 3 quid...... i've since downloaded the real avast prog, from the real avast website.
now, please take the **** out of me, i clearly deserve it & need to be taught a lesson.....

I'd check that they ain't gonna take out £3.00 off you every month mate! Some scams do this and it's a bugger to try and stop them.

You are stupid, but on the plus side hopefully some one here, or someone else via google will read your post and not repeat your stupidity
So it's probably a good thing you came clean and announced your stupidity
You're not the first, and you won't be the last to do it 
You should have installed a Linux, or Mac OS to avoid the issue 
I'm thinking of doing that next time some-one asks me to reinstall Windows for them after they've been happy clicking, and randomly installing all sorts of crap which grinds their machine to a halt
(and yes I am aware of the irony of what I have just written after my most recent post!)

theres a very good reason nobody bothers to write viri for linux & OsX, but i'm far to polite to write it here
