The owners of this station have decided to shut it down despite it winning numerous awards and increasing it's listener numbers. It'll probably be replaced with yet another insipid pop-tastic station which is just what we don't need but it will make the accountants happy. There is a petition and you can join in by visiting their website or www.saveplanetrock.co.uk. We can but hope a buyer will be found.

I reckon a few millionaire musicians, promoters and record companies could chip in.

Or do you think it's a conspiracy to force people to pay to download (quality) music that the other stations don't play?

I'll be very disappointed if this occurs. It's the only music station that I go out of my way to listen to every day.

From the Sunday Express newspaper:

"The board of commercial radio group GCap Media is expected to accept a £371m bid from Global Radio as early as this week."

Planet Rock could be saved!!!!

Less than 3 weeks to go now. A few additions to the site saveplanetrock.co.uk/ where you can sign various petitions or download banners and images to use on whatever message board/forum/facebook/myspace/bebo is your thing. Every little helps as they say. A few vids on youtube as well. Pass the message on!

"Check the website next week for an update regarding the survival of Planet Rock. Thanks for all your continued support of the station." Fingers crossed, it's not over yet!

Quote:
22nd March 2008 - BREAKING NEWS: It has been announced that Planet Rock will continue for a further month, (beyond the previously announced deadline of 28th March) to allow time for discussions to take place with a potential buyer.

This is just the news we all wanted to hear, as it allows more time for further campaigning to support the station, while allowing for "due diligence" to be completed.....

We still need to be focused....and no deal has been done yet.....but the signs are that someone has come forward and is interested in keeping Planet Rock on air.

So, please continue to register your support....and let's show any potential new owner(s) that the listeners want Planet Rock to survive...
