Any Rory Gallagher fans?

I've just discovered the "Top Priority" album, and I'm embarrassed now to say that Rory's music has largely passed me by.

I cannot get enough of "Follow Me" and "Philby" this week.

I had heard of him before, but it wasn't until he died that I got into his music. When he died the beeb repeated an 'in concert' (possibly a 'Whistle test') which my mate taped as we were going to see a band in a pub that night. They played a few Rory numbers as a tribute, my first initiation to his work. Impressed by this we went back to another mate's for more booze and asked if he'd got any Rory stuff in his record collection. The only thing he had was a 'Taste' album 'On the Boards' which we listened to. Suitably fired up by this we returned to watch the tape recorded earlier which was great, but felt quite sad he'd passed away.
Anyroad, check out his 'Taste' albums as well as his solo stuff.

Hmm? I was on the verge of purchasing a Rory Gallagher CD a few years ago as I watched footage of him on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' and was impressed by his performance. I wanted to finish my Neil Young collection at the time so concentrated on that before trying to get into other music but somehow it slipped me by!?

I'll have to pick up on his stuff now. This thread has reminded me of his superb performance I watched those years ago so thanks for that!!

Any albums of his that I should listen to first?

Only got a couple of tracks on compilations, Souped up Ford and Messin with the Kid.

Remember him well though. Jeans, Lumberjack shirt and a battered old Strat. Usually going for it full on.

Pretty good entry in Wikipedia for him as well.

Don't wish to hijack the thread but if you like him try Stevie Ray Vaughan

Andy_R, the "Top Priority" album has become an instant classic with me this week. It's on BlahDVD.com for less than a fiver. Might be one to check out!

Calling Card is a favourite of mine - but I have quite a few Rory Gallagher albums and there are none I don't like Happy
I did manage to see him live many years ago too - fantastic musician.
