Gilmour....oh dear!!

Just listened to the eagerly awaited new Gilmour album. Oh dear....all the right bits are in the right places but this could be 'Wish you were here 2'. Now, I loved that album on release (and have continued to love it for the last thirty or so years) but it's something of a travesty that this once incredibly inventive guitarist is merely going through the motions. There are some 'nice' but predictable moments on here and it all washes over in a pleasant way, but the Floyd were once an incredibly creative force. This is (imvho) 'stuck in a rut' stuff. Why's he doing it? He can't need the money? What's the point? Sad

I think, simply, he's doing it because he wants to. You're right - he certainly doesn't need the money - he gives millions away. So the point I suppose is, erm, he wants to make music so he has. Tongue
Yes, the album is OK and just seems to wash over you..

Maybe that's the whole point...

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Went to see Shine On, a Floyd tribute band, yesterday and they were excellent.

Maybe Dave should too?!

But what has he got left to prove? He can play guitar like drops of molten silver, or like continents ripping apart.

So what, if he wants to Polly-wolly-doodle a bit.

As long as they get Pulse out on dvd soon!

I'm not talking about the man proving anything...it's just that many people will be parting with their hard earned money for this much anticipated album...and it's a disappointment from a man capable of so much more. This is almost EXACTLY what you'd expect from a Floyd covers band...

Gilmour is okay but Waters is way better I still think Amusement to Death is by far his best solo album.

Competent

Up until yesterday I fully agreed with the "oh dear!!" sentiment,

But I give it another listen, and I surprised myself by actually
enjoying what I was hearing.

Took about five listens in total though.
