Hi - I just bought an Acer X1160PZ projector for watching movies and playing xbox and wii games. Its for occassional use only as I have a 37" Panny plasma with a yamaha reiever and yamaha 5.1 speaker kit in the sitting room. I am going to put it in the spare room and am wondering if I should get a 5.1 system again or go for the yamaha YAS-81 speaker bar? I would really appreciate your opinions.
Best Wishes
Dan
I suppose it depends on what you're expecting and how much it will be used. Personally I don't think they come close to a proper 5.1 setup - but in places with restricted room can serve a purpose.
I think Ben on here has a Yamaha soundbar so may be able help more. I even seem to recall he may have been selling it - but could have dreamt that.....

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
....but how many people actually have the shaped room often shown on speaker placement and in demo rooms? Nice squarish room, TV in the centre of the wall, settee opposite, just off the wall, speakers in a corner etc. Vast majority are generally in a corner which the soundbars can struggle with - hitting the walls at an angle etc.

That is why I said "In the right shaped room" rather than it "works fine in any room"
He did say it was going in the spare room so I am guessing it will be set more like a demo room. That and the fact that a projected image tends not to look very good on a screen with a 45 degree fold in it
Oh, I would never put speakers in the corners. As a rule they will sound rubbish.
WELCOME TO KINKY CLUB.
I am considering a Yamaha speakerbar, as just about every LCD going is reviewed as having weak sound.
I've no desire to have 5.1 or 7.1.
However, I like using the SKY remote to adjust the sound.
Can these soundbars be programmed to work from a SKY remote?
