As a complete novice when it comes to such things....i understand what HD is and that 1080p is the best resolution currently available but not really sure about much else, im looking for a bit of advice.
Im looking to buy a 32' inch set preferably at 1080p for anywhere between £300-400, i realise this isnt alot but seems i can get a TV of this size for around £350 at the moment what with the prices falling. Im off the understanding that Sony Bravia is the way to go but was hoping that you clever bods on these forums could point me in the right direction.
I have a PS3 so its for use with Blu Ray and im about to get my Sky HD box so am looking for the best posible picture on a budget.

You won't get a Bravia for that money, well not a decent one. If you want quality it costs, and Sony TVs are expensive. The best 32" model is probably the 32W4000. You don't get all the really good stuff until you move up to 40" and above though. You might be better off with a Samsung/Toshiba on your budget.

I was under the impression that 1080p wouldnt be noticable on anything short of 42 or 46 inch?? so 1080i (i think) would be fine on 32inch??

TVs that support 1080i on a 1366x768 display do so by scaling, so you're still seeing a 720p image and you lose the 1:1 pixel mapping feature afforded by 1080p sets resulting in quite a lot of overscan on all sources. With the price of TVs now there's no reason not to get a 1080p set.

Yep, for the 1:1 pixel mapping alone. Don't know if overscan bothers you, but you can lose huge amounts of the picture when scaling is involved (just look at 576i PAL on the average HDTV - logos and text are cut off). Most decent TVs from major manufacturers offer 1080p as standard now on their reasonably priced mid-ranged sets, and I wouldn't be looking at anything less than that. If you want 100/200Hz processing and 24Hz compatibility you'll have to spend more, but there are some fairly decent TVs for around £400-£500 now.

So is there such a thing as a 32' Sony 1080p tv? Im only pushing the Sony boat so far because i think the automatic audio output switching is a good feature

have you tried Richer Sounds?
the 32w400 mentioned earlier is £100 over your budget, but there's some Panasonics and Samsungs which may fit your needs.
