I've just bought the Sony S-300 and an additional VCR, but spent half the night wrangling with SCART leads, JACKS and Co-AX.
I thought SCART was a pass-through system and I could daisy chain all my boxes together: SAT, CABLETV, VCR1, VCR2, DVD then finally VIDEO out via JACK to TV Scart converter.
My TV doesn't have the facility to switch inputs from AERIAL to SCART, it relies on the sending device to switch this, but the SONY DVD has only JACK output and therefore no facility to drop the required line.
So.... how can I get this to work - what's the best way? (Given that each device has only 2 scart sockets, except TV which has 1).

Sorry but what do you mean by the SONY DVD has only having JACK output? (I am not sure what you mean by Jack? is it Phono, BNC svideo?).
Surly if it has 2 scart sockets one of those can be used as an output to the TV then the switching should work?.

I'm with Vic, can you clarify your connections for us.
Assuming that the Sony DVD has at least one scart socket, which the versions bought here normally do and you have other devices such as VCR and cable/satellite box, then you'll need a good quality scart box that allows you to plug in multiple devices, with one scart going to the TV.
Is the scart on the TV 'RGB' if so make sure you get the scart box is RGB compatible, not all of them on the market are, so check.
if you decide to press on with the daisy chaining idea, ok but if your daisy chaining the DVD through the VCR do you have macrovision disabled, if you don't the picture quality from DVD will probably be very poor because of macrovision protection.

Sorry guys - to clarify: by JACK I mean PHONO and there are NO SCART sockets on the Sony DVD 
I didn't intend to route the DVD through a VCR, the DVD would be the last in the chain prior to the TV.
I was amazed that the Sony unit had no SCARTs - they even have to supply a PHONO to SCART adaptor for the TV (in the manual the small print says: "for the European market")

Hi Kevin,
The DVD will need to be the last in the chain as if it goes before the VCR then you could run into macrovision as previously mentioned.
What method were you thinking of connecting the VCR to the DVD, does it have multiple s-video connectors, or are you going to use the scart box idea.
I'd also check the scart connector that came with the DVD to see how good it is, as it may be worth investing in a better quality one, as this is your main video output to the TV.

I was going to connect the last VCR to the DVD with a SCART to PHONO lead.
The connector to the TV is suspect, and poor quality IMO.
Do you see any probs with this setup?
