Does anybody know the remote control codes to VCD/SVCD enabling of the NAD T571?

Harmless

This hack to enable (possibly) all disabled features of NAD T512, T531, T571 and many LG DVD players. (Abobe mentioned NADs are essentially LG - at least remote and commands are the same).

Technicalities:
NAD T571 (and others see list above) *is* capable of VCD playback (not sure about SVCD though). It has a set of internal registers (8 or 9 in total, numbered started from 1) that can hold 8 bit values. The 4th register holds features flags. It means each bit is associated with one of the features like VCD playback, Dolby 5.1 decoder, MP3 playback etc. The value 0 means this feature is not available (or switched off). The value 1 - means it switched on. The bit 2 is responsible for VCD playback (bit 9 - for instance for Dolby decoding but does not make a difference if appropriate hardware is missing Happy. So to switch on VCDs playback for instance - all you have to do is to set bit 2 of the 4th register value to 1. Here's how to set it (make sure there are no disks in it):

1) switch on DVD

2) open the tray (may not be required depending on DVD player)

3) press 'Stop' on the remote

4) press 'Pause' followed by '1', '4', '7', '2'

5) DVD goes to the register configuration mode - DVD display will show the first register and value stored in it. Should be something like "1 45"

6) By pressing 'Up' and 'Down' buttons select register 4 (should be something like "4 DD")

7) calculate your new value for the 4th register adding VCD playback (bitwise OR operation) which will be:

<new value> = <current value> OR 2

So in my case when setting bit 2 to 1 the original value DD will become DF. Setting the 4th register value to FF will enable all features (configured by that register Happy

7) The value stored in register is shown in hexadecimal form. It is expected to be set in this form as well. To enter new value enter the first hexadecimal digit of the value followed by the second. There are 16 hexadecimal digits so - they are encoded as follows:
'0' - '0'
'1' - '1'
'2' - '2'
'3' - '3'
'4' - '4'
'5' - '5'
'6' - '6'
'7' - '7'
'8' - '8'
'9' - '9'
'A' - sequentially press 'Program' then '1'
'B' - sequentially press 'Program' then '2'
'C' - sequentially press 'Program' then '3'
'D' - sequentially press 'Program' then '4'
'E' - sequentially press 'Program' then '5'
'F' - sequentially press 'Program' then '6'

So in my case value DF will be set by sequentially pressing 'Program', '4', 'Program', '6'

8) After setting the value press 'Enter' and then 'Return' to set the new values

9) Switch off the DVD and then back on - all changes should be now in place

Unfortunately register 4 does not have flags for SVCD playback or Macrovision disabling and I don't really want to risc investigating what other registers are for. So if anyone will be brave enough to find out - please post the info here.
