Probably won't come as any surprise to anyone, after all he does give a lot of his time and money to charity.
The poster of this video ironically attacks Gates and lists a few others like George Clooney, who also do a lot of charity work.

I don't understand why those who feel this way don't just donate money to the Treasury in the same way that they would donate to charity. Would save a lot of debate over where to set the tax rate for those who really want to avoid it and those who did could just publish their tax returns with a row that stated "Donations" so they can either show off in the "I do a lot of Treasury work but I don't like to talk about it" kinda way or just prove if challenged that they were doing more than their legal requirement.

I'm pretty sure Bill Gates doesn't need to prove or 'show off' to anybody that he's doing waaaaay more that his 'legal requirement'..
Lots of people seem to like slagging Bill Gates off but I don't really disagree with anything below...
Quote:
His philanthropy is on an epic scale. He is seriously planning to eradicate diseases in his lifetime that have plagued humanity for thousands of years.
Bill Gates visited Deptford Green as part of the Speakers for Schools project
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has already given $26bn (£17bn) to fund health, development and education projects.
Even the biggest cynic would have to be impressed by this massive engine of generosity, with Bill Gates working full time on donating the income from an endowment worth $33.5bn (£21.5bn).taken from here..
$26bn already given away.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

Don't get me wrong, that wasn't a dig at Gates - I'm more than aware of his reputation as a philanthropist. I'm talking about all those people who just sit there and say "I think I should pay more tax", there should be option for them to just put their money where their mouth is.

I say that we should not penalise the rich and set them with more taxes to such an extent they leave the country, for example 'the Beatles' where we eventually got 92% tax of zero, which is a big fat zero, as they left. No bl**dy wonder.
Instead they should bring taxes down really low for everyone, so we can retain some of our hard earned money. 68% tax on transport fuel is diabolical for starters.
This whole subject is just to try and get us angry at the fat cat rich and downplay the story which is the excessive UK taxes (direct and indirect) that the average joe in the street has to pay to keep a roof over their head, pay heating, fuel and food, to keep thier family living.
The problem with the super rich, is that they generally are very good at avoiding paying tax. They can afford to employ people who are excellent at it.

Especially those who run newspapers.
Yes it would be great if they could reduce taxes, but in the meantime, everyone should pay their fair share and the point here is rich people don't.
There are plenty of rich people paying a lower percentage of tax than you are! Despite being in a higher tax bracket.

Also, nobody is suggesting increasing taxes to some astronomical level. They simply want to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, returning the rates for those earning over $250,000 a year to what they were in the Clinton years. Clinton being the president who left office with a budget surplus, not a deficit.
But no, the Republitards won't have that because the "job creators" won't be able to create any jobs, despite the fact that they didn't create any with the tax cuts either.

Well why not bring us poor people down to the lower level of tax that the rich are paying.
The rich can leave the country if their tax gets to high and live elsewhere, we cannot.
If you work out the direct and indirect taxes we pay in this country, it is totally discusting.

The reason the rich pay the lower rates is because they hire armies of accountants to exploit every loophole in the tax code.
If they didn't have any such help they would have to pay the correct amount of tax.
