What happened to that law about Adverts being no louder than the programme.

Just been blasted out by Sky news. Had to turn it up to hear the news, then the adds blasted me out. They are not the only ones. It seems to happen on all the channels I watch.

Technically, it's not louder, it's something to do with the sound range. That's how they get around it

Technically, I change channel or mute all the ads!

Would that be equivalent to using Ad blocking software on a browser?
Will the next generation TVs be able to detect when the sound is muted, and then the TV companies'll flash up banners saying, "muting our ads diminishes our revenue and stops us from showing you reality TV programmes en masse"?

The sound of ads are deffening !

If you are out of the room while a telly program is on, you soon know when the adversts cut in because the walls and doors start to vibrate with the increase in sound intensity.

In fact this increase in sound is depremental to advertising, as the minute the ads start up, I always mute it, assuming I am in the room, so never listen to them*.

* Except, we did listen out for that cute alien advert over Christmas where they sang "we are flying in the air' copying the snowman film, that washilarious, and also the other cute alien advert where they copy the windows logo sound. They were so funny.

And the funny thing about it was as a family, we were copying them

If I am watching TV, I tend to have the sound low and the subtitles on, coz its nice to have quiet after a day with my girls (they've just spent the last 45 minutes playing "marp", a game which seems to get louder the older they get), and adverts are always far louder than the main programme, it drives me insane.

I generally watch my stuff on Sky+, so I can fast forward the ads, but I get organised and get to watch something "live" every now and then and its really annoying.

The day they work out how to prevent ff through adverts, I'll send Sky back and join Love film

I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was.
Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's 'it' seems weird and scary

Charlie Brooker touched on that subject in one of his recent Black Mirror dramas, you were fined for muting/skipping adverts!

We just about never watch adverts as since we got a hard drive tv recorder, and now with the V+ box, we don't watch anything live any more.

Some TV shows are ony 43 minutes long now, and the rest of the hour is adverts. So I agree sky+ it, and watch it, and fast forward the ads.

When I was on holiday in LA in the states a few years back, I watched an epsode of Star Trek, and it was five minutes of show and five minutes of adverts, and I said, if it ever goes that way in the UK, I am switching the box off.
