HD - made for wildlife programmes...

I guess this could realistically be in the TV forum but it's not...

Was watching Earthflight last night in HD and yet again was astounded by some of the stunning visuals and the detail shown.  I was never a real Attenborough fan previously, although I had one of his books back when I was a teenager, and hardly ever watched wildlife programmes but something has changed for me.

I've already bought Planet Earth and Life on BD just for the visuals and will probably do the same for Earthflight, the fact that these programmes are interesting is almost secondary.

Am I mad?

Not at all, Si. I'm the same, and have a little collection of nature BDs accumulating on the shelf.

I think when we were growing up, we either liked that kind of programme or we didn't. But we learned more by listening to the commentary, and the image onscreen was little more than an illustration, as the quality was relatively poor. (Mr Attenborough might disagree, but with a 20" set, you really couldn't appreciate what you were shown fully)

Now, suddenly, we are seeing the full beauty of the world around us on our TV screens. It's stunning. Whether it's panoramic views of thousands of flamingos swooping down to the water or a close up of a mother chimp with her baby, it's breath-taking in high def.

I would also recommend that you pick up the Human Planet boxset when you get a chance, which is also one of my favourites on BD.

Wildlife and 'scenery' do show off HD to great effect.

Mind you, just finished watching An Idiot Abroad which was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time..  During the trip to Alaska one, and it's beautiful snow for miles around, Karl is soooo ****ed off he says something like "Don't know why Sky are filming this in HD, they could have done it in black and white!"... Happy
