The boredom of a Sunday evening I decided to sign upto Newzbin before any research, now I realise there's more to it than pay, search, click, download... oops
Can anyone suggest what else I need?

Does Newzbin have torrents that aren't available elsewhere or something? Or is it a usenet service?

Not sure Rob, reading between the lines I thought it was a faster service that the usual torrents sites...

If you want to use Newzbin you will need a Usenet account. Newzbin is simply an indexing site - you click a link to a .nzb file (in the same way you would click a .torrent link).
You will also need a Usenet client (eg. Grabit). You put your usenet account details into the software and then load the .nzb file into it. The files will then be downloaded as fast as your connection can handle.
This is better than torrents because:
1. You can usually download at the max of your broadband connection.
2. You don't have to rely on other users seeding the file you want (nor do you have to maintain a seed ratio)
3. You can enable SSL security so your ISP cannot see what you are downloading.
But you have to pay for the privilege - I've been with Astraweb for several years. $15 per month for unlimited access.
Also, a lot of US based servers (and some international ones) will remove content from major studios as a result of DMCA takedown notices - HBO are very on the ball with this, usually filing complaints just hours after episodes are uploaded to usenet.

Ah right I did always think Newzbin was a usenet binaries indexer but all this fuss about it I thought maybe it was something else. Thanks for the explanation!

whats the data retention like ? ie, if your looking for something old/obscure ? (btw, pretty much every torrent site i use manages to max out my 20meg connection
although, i use a seedbox now)
